Project X : Light Years - A cool Amiga Shoot em up by Team 17 gets a modern PC reimagining by MK Games

One of the coolest Shoot em ups I can remember, wasn't the all time classic R-Type, but Team 17's Project-X, which was not only released on the Amiga in 1992, but later ported to MS-DOS. It was a game that had great graphics, sound and awesome wave blasting enemies that not only featured wicked weaponry, but cool powerups such as the voiced "speed up". So if you remember this game that in my opinion deserves to be in a collection, you'll be pleased to know that as of today you can download MK Games 'Project X : Light Years'.  A modern reimagining of the classic available through Steam.

And here's the latest. "Thirty years have passed since the original battle against the alien menace in "Project X: Light Years". Now, the threat has returned, more formidable than ever. "Project X: Light Years" is a high-octane, side-scrolling shoot'em up, an official entry to the classic Amiga game that captivated gamers decades ago. In "Project X: Light Years", players will once again pilot advanced spacecraft through treacherous enemy territories, facing waves of relentless foes and colossal bosses. With modern graphics, enhanced gameplay mechanics, and a soundtrack that pays homage to the original, Project X: Light Years is designed with both old-school fans and new players in mind. Equip your ship with an array of powerful weapons and upgrades, strategise your assault, and harness your piloting skills to save humanity from annihilation. The fate of the galaxy rests in your hands – can you rise to the challenge and thwart the alien invasion once and for all?"

  1. Still prefer the original on the Amiga. But, good for them giving the PC an upgrade, because, that DOS version was not the greatest.

    1. Soldner is much slower and doesn't have such a great replayability like PX LY

  5. Project X was always over-rated on the Amiga. X-Out, SWIV, Battle Squadron, Hybris, R-Type, Silkworm for example were clearly far better on the Amiga. I will only have a passing interest to see what they do with the new game. Now Alien Breed on the other hand... I would be interested in...

    1. says the creator of R-Type. We see what you did there, sneaking in your own product. Just kidding. Project-X is bad ass, top dog, best of the best! Do agree with you on the Alien Breed, but again, Amiga version is the bee's knee's.

  6. Ah. Yeah. Going to try it out. I was just commenting on the looks. Söldner-X kind of bored me towards the middle so I never finished it. Loved the OST and sound design of Söldner-X though.
