SwitcherBoy - A charming arcade puzzler for the Amiga AGA by C.R.A.N.E


While I'm not a fan of redpill developed games, especially with them being rather slow and clunky. One game however that looks worth a play, and surprisingly isn't clunky, is C.R.A.N.E's Commodore Amiga AGA red pill developed game of 'SwitcherBoy'. A game in which you must not only avoid the enemies spread throughout the level, but you are tasked with flipping switches for the exit to open, before the time runs out. To coincide with this news, provided below is the latest game play footage.

  1. Thanks for your great work, but I'll repeat what I said in my last posts: Aga isn't the standard Amiga, and you're unwittingly harming the system and the future of the Amiga scene. OCs/ECs should be the first option. I know Scorpion Engine or other languages ​​aren't the right tool, but not having these games initially focused on OCs/ECs is, in my opinion, killing the Amiga 500.

    1. Some games are made for AGA, some games are made for OCS/ECS.. It's the same for scene demos too! You're just going to have to find another game :D - I have an A500 and an A1200 with a Pistorm. Best of both worlds. This is also one of the better RedPill titles too

    2. Nonsense, we have already seen what can be done with an A500, and OCS/ECS, now it's time to step up, and see what can be done with AGA and even Vampire/Apollo or Pistorm. As long as the CPU is compatible with m68k CPUs and the hardware with OCS/ECS/AGA chipset, it is a true classic Amiga, even with the SAGA chipset of ApolloV4. Because SAGA physically maps new features of hardware into the $DFF000 address range, as on old machines. Even the 3D unit has registers in $DFF000, and the new 16 bit audio, and better sprites, and improved copper chip.

      This game doesn't even use fully the AGA hardware, but it's easier for noobs to get a game running on AGA, because there is more memory, more CPU power, better sprites, and more colors to use than OCS/ECS.

    3. “Killing the Amiga 500” is a funny concept for a computer that hasn’t been in production for decades yet still gets lots of games every year. 😅

      Scorpion can facilitate A500 (+512k expansion) games easily. Not everyone wants to target that though. A lot of people do, mind! There are games for all configs.

  2. Why can't you be thankful for all the effort this devs put in their work instead of complaining about "lack of OCS support?" Seriously, You can even play AGA games on an A500 by simply upgrading it with a pistorm or any other capable enough accelerator

    Or using emulation like almost anyone else?

  3. It's quite something when the line starts to blur with what we consider and authentic Amiga experience.. The truth is there are so many options for development and consumers it can make your head spin. It would be nice to have a single piece of hardware and fixed specs we can call Amiga but that's never going to happen now..If you can get any of these games to run on real hardware, even if that means less common setups it should be considered Amiga..right?.. Anyway, cute looking game :)

  4. This game looks good :) @Fernando: AGA is just as much a standard as OCS and ECS. After all, the 1200/4000/CD32 were produced by Commodore and sold in significant numbers. The only things this developer is killing are the ideas in your head. Just let everyone create the games they want for the platform they want.

  5. People making AGA games is fine, but this new trend of only releasing stuff as useless .LHA files that don't work in emulators is a right dickache.

    1. I find it easy enough to unpack the LHA files on an Amiga, but yes I would prefer a decent ADF or WHDLOAD
