The Commodore 64 scene continues to prove that there is still plenty of life in this legendary machine. Retro homebrew developer youki06 has just released Flat Lane, a new racing title that serves as both a nostalgic tribute and a technical "experiment-turned-reality." For youki06, the project is deeply personal. His history with the C64 dates back to 1983, when he received the computer as an 11-year-old. Like many aspiring programmers of that era, he dreamed of creating a pseudo-3D racer in the vein of the arcade classic Pole Position. While he felt he lacked the technical prowess as a child, Flat Lane—his second complete game for the platform—finally brings that vision to fruition.
And here's the latest "This game is my second complete game on the C64. It started as an experiment and could have been much better, but I still think it’s a fun little game, in the spirit of what you could find on the C64 around 1983–84. So I felt it was worth sharing with you. I hope to build on what I learned from making this game to create something even better soon. In this game, you play as Paul Pitstop, the famous Formula 64 driver. Your goal is to win against your competitors, Alain Frost and Ayrton SEGA. I hope you will enjoy it!"
