Project Hydron - This Battle Squadron tease could be rather decent for the Amiga!

Well this is looking pretty decent even at such an early stage of development as Cobour has officially announced "Hydron," an upcoming vertical shoot 'em up, crafted as a direct love letter to legendary Amiga Shoot 'em ups Hybris and Battle Squadron. Designed to run smoothly on the Commodore Amiga, Hydron specifically targets a standard Amiga 500 equipped with a 512KB memory expansion, bringing the requirement to a total of 1 MB of RAM. The developers have confirmed the game will adhere strictly to OCS and PAL standards and will work across any classic Kickstart versions.

Currently, co-developer Kevin is busy building the first level's environment tiles and fine-tuning the final color palette, while temporary, scaled-up sprites reminiscent of Hybris handle the heavy lifting in early testing builds. The team is plotting out complex enemy movement patterns using modern vector tools like GodSVG, translating those SVG paths into pre-calculated frame steps that the classic Amiga processor can easily handle. Moving forward, Cobour plans to share monthly devlogs, sample code, and teaser clips, with a downloadable ADF disk image available for testing. Furthermore, the development of Hydron (and A100 before) was done using a GitHub repository which was not visible to the public until today. To share their passion for creating games for the beloved Amiga they decided to change the visibility of the repository from "private" to "public".

Extra Notes

  • Krzysztof Odachowski (aka Drakon aka Soundkiller aka Danthalian) is doing the audio. He composed the amazing tunes for their other games NeonWorld and A100.
