The legendary Spanish comic duo Mortadelo and Filemón has arrived on the Commodore Amiga in a brand-new retro gaming project titled Mort & Phil. Developed by Amiga Factory using the Redpill game engine, this upcoming release is finalized and scheduled for upload within days. Beyond providing a new gaming experience for Amiga owners, the project serves as a heartfelt tribute to the iconic comic creator Francisco Ibáñez Talavera, who passed away in 2023.
The game is an Amiga adaptation of a 2006 mobile title originally produced by M-solutions and B.R.B. Internacional, which saw distribution in over 50 countries. Known globally by various localizations—such as Clever & Smart in Germany, Paling & Ko in the Netherlands, and Mortadella e Filémone in Italy—the secret agents are now stepping into a 16-bit adventure blending strategy, puzzle-solving, disguises, and signature slapstick humour. In this new title, players must rescue their kidnapped boss, the Superintendent. The gameplay offers unique tactical variety:
- Character Swapping: Players can switch between Mortadelo and Filemón at any point.
- Specialised Traits: Filemón handles tasks requiring direct confidence and leadership.
- Disguise System: Mortadelo utilizes his famous array of disguises to bypass specific level challenges.
- Target Hardware: The current release is built specifically for AGA Amigas to preserve dual-playfield scrolling and HAM display screens.
- Potential OCS/ECS Port: If community demand is high enough, the developer will release a modified version stripping out the parallax background and HAM screens to accommodate older Amiga models. Amiga Factory plans to open-source the project by releasing all development materials, assets, and source files alongside the game launch.
- Extra Notes : the only things adapted from the original game were the character and object sprites, as well as the level design. Everything else is brand new material for the enjoyment of all Commodore Amiga users.
