Sabre Wulf - An Ultimate Play the Game classic has arrived on the Commodore VIC-20

The VIC-20 news hasn't finished with us just yet, as homebrew developer gekka has now released a new port of Ultimate Play The Game’s 1984 classic Sabre Wulf for the Commodore VIC-20 over from the ZX Spectrum. According to the creator, the original left a lasting impression on him, largely due to its deeply immersive and incredible atmosphere. Bringing that same experience to the VIC-20 required a lengthy and challenging development process, marked by numerous failed attempts over the years before finally reaching completion.

Adapting the game to the VIC-20’s distinct hardware forced a major overhaul of the original layout. Gekka had to heavily rework the graphical locations and redesign various visual elements to properly fit the system's unique screen size constraints. In a surprise twist for fans, the conversion also features brand-new content. While digging through the original 1984 game data, gekka discovered unused sprites left behind by the original creators. These forgotten graphics have been fully integrated into the new VIC-20 version as bonus collectibles.Players must still navigate the jungle to piece together the four fragments of the amulet to escape. However, achieving a perfect 100% completion score now requires tracking down three newly added precious objects: the Grail, the Necklace, and the Treasure Chest.
