To start the week we have a new game called Bubble Pop: The Sea, a rather lovely bubble shooter for the Commodore 64 developed by J5. Serving as a polished Puzzle Bobble clone, the game was coded from scratch in pure 6502 assembly language with some extra help from AI with coding and graphics . The gameplay is responsive, tasking players with lining up angles to burst clustered bubbles before the ceiling drops too low. To coincide with this news, Saberman has done some gameplay footage provided below.
Chip-musician Toxic Avenger has provided a fantastic original score, packed with a memorable title theme, game-over pieces, victory jingles, and four distinct stage tracks that shuffle randomly so you never hear the same melody back-to-back. The sound design even dynamically responds to your performance—the larger the cluster of bubbles you burst, the higher the tone of the popping sound effects. It is a satisfying touch that keeps players hooked with the success of a massive chain reaction before they can even finish counting the score on screen.
