Here we have another Commodore VIC-20 game to play with the latest release of Phoenix, an ambitious arcade port developed by Milasoft. The same developer who also recently released the VIC-20 port of Galaga. This latest release translates the 1980 arcade classic into three distinct combat scenarios spread across its five-stage campaign. The initial conflict forces players to shoot upward at nimble, bird-like alien vessels that execute aggressive diving manoeuvres. As the battle intensifies in stages three and four, giant, falcon-like adversaries join the fray with significantly tougher, unpredictable flight paths, leading up to the final assault against the massive mothership.
Phoenix puts players in the cockpit of Earth's final defensive spacecraft. Tasked with halting a hostile alien armada, pilots must navigate through multiple waves of combat to protect the planet from imminent destruction. The harrowing gauntlet begins with two initial waves of lightning-fast scout ships, which quickly give way to a pair of even deadlier stages featuring elite alien warriors. Players who survive these brutal opening salvos will earn the ultimate opportunity to confront the colossal enemy mothership in a desperate bid to save humanity.
