Well this is a surprise as I don't usually feature Pinball games, as today saw the release of Rollerball CPC, a brand-new homebrew port of HAL Laboratory’s 1984 classic MSX pinball game. Developed by Oldschool is beautiful with the help of AI, this ambitious project brings the iconic multi-screen pinball experience—complete with its original bumper mechanics, bonus lanes, and scoring systems—to Amstrad CPC hardware for the very first time. Rather than a loose remake however, this version remarkably runs the game's original code directly on the CPC, ensuring the exact ball physics and authentic gameplay that fans fell in love with nearly forty years ago.
The developer completely overhauled the game's presentation for the Amstrad's architecture. The new release replicates the MSX's native 256 × 192 resolution, leveraging Mode 1 dithering to faithfully recreate the classic colour palette alongside smooth vertical scrolling between table sections. Technical enhancements like a double-buffered display eliminate screen tearing, while the original soundtrack and effects have been meticulously rearranged for the CPC's sound chip. Players looking to play the game will need an Amstrad CPC 6128—or a 464/664 model equipped with a 128K memory expansion—to support the game's keyboard and joystick options.
