Alien 3 CD32 Edition - This is finally the Amiga version we should have had all along (Gravedigger)

The Commodore Amiga CD32 has received a bit of treat this Halloween with the release of Alien 3 CD32 Edition, a complete overhaul developed by EAB community creator Mister_Grave. Built entirely from scratch, this latest project rewrites the original game engine to, as the developer puts it, finally deliver the definitive Amiga version players have deserved for decades. By harnessing the full power of the Advanced Graphics Architecture (AGA) chipset, this release brings the visually superior Sega Mega Drive assets over to Commodore's 32-bit console for the first time.

Amiga owners will notice an immediate upgrade, as the game now boasts vibrant 64-colour visuals utilising all six AGA bitplanes alongside the Mega Drive's signature parallax scrolling. Mister_Grave has revamped the audio by blending the best sound effects from both platforms and completely recreating the animated intro and menus. Players can also choose between the original Amiga soundtrack or a brand-new, atmospheric instrumental remix tailored to mimic the eerie tension of the Alien films. Modern quality-of-life features have also been baked into the options menu, including a level select system and the ability to disable the in-game timer.

Upgraded Visuals

Performance has been optimized for different setups as well, featuring a standard stock CD32 mode and a Fast RAM-enhanced version tailored for TF330 accelerator hardware. While the TF330 version locks in a smooth 25 frames per second, stock CD32 owners can toggle the background parallax effects on the fly using the controller's forward button to mitigate slowdown in later stages. Additionally, the disc features an impressive FMV intro video compressed by Rochabian using the cutting-edge LisaMotion engine, offering HAM8 and MPEG profiles depending on whether players own an FMV module or an upgraded MiSTer FPGA setup. Early community feedback has been overwhelmingly positive as well, with players praising the enhanced in-game visuals and calling the cinematic intro worth the admission alone.

  1. This game is a terrible game in all its incarnations.

  2. This is a really great update for the Amiga : remixed musics are great, the intro is a good add on... well done. Unfortunately it is not a 60fps version like the Megadrive and there are some missing sounds (alien between stages) and the intro music is not there (the one after pressing a button to see the main menu).

  4. I tried to like this game but the time limit ruined it for me, my brain hates working under stress, on top of that you needed to memorize the level layout so you can stay within the countdown. Once I found a trained version and disabled the timer I had more fun.
