The C64 mini is going LARGE and feature packed! - Full sized version of the 80’s best-selling home computer (December 2019)

With the resurgance of retro gaming hardware enabling us to play old classics on big TV's with lots of built in games such as the NES Mini, SNES Mini, Playstation 1 Classic, NEO GEO Mini,PC Engine Mini and the C64 Mini you'd be forgiven in thinking there wasn't much else to get excited by the end of this year. Well The C64 crew have something to shout about and in a pretty big way, as they have just announced the full-sized version of ‘THEC64’, will be coming December 2019!

WHDLoad 18.3 - New Amiga Harddisk-install package release!

A very early morning announcement for Amiga users as WHDLoad; the AmigaOS friendly Harddisk-Install package by Bert Jahn has been updated to a brand new WHDLoad 18.3 final version. With well over a year in development, WHDLoad is probably the best software available for your Amiga, as it makes it possible to install quite a lot demos and games, which were originally designed to run only from floppy disks, to your harddisk.

Dizzy's 30th Anniversary celebration - International Dizzy day announced, Saturday 8th April!

Ever since I had an Amstrad CPC 464 and then on to an Amiga, I have always been a massive Dizzy fan, playing pretty much every Dizzy game ever released since 1987 by the glorious Oliver Twins. It was also the reason Indie Retro News has tried to keep you informed to the latest developments coming out from our good friends the YolkFolk and many other Dizzy related sources. This is especially true for this news because as of today as a fantastic heads up in celebration of Dizzy's 30th anniversary, the Oliver Twins have announced International Dizzy day, which is being held at the National Videogame Arcade, Nottingham Saturday 8th April!

Super Hydorah - Locomalito's Shoot em up looks better than ever in this announcement!

Fantastic news this evening as Locomalito, the same designer behind the fantastic Ghouls 'n Ghosts style game of Maldita Castilla, the epic Shoot 'em up of Hydorah, the ZX Spectrum look alike Platformer of l'Abbaye des Morts and the NES inspired platformer ' The Curse of Issyos ', has recently tweeted his latest retro inspired game in a team up with Abylight Studios, 'Super Hydorah'.

Dave Needle - Amiga Co-Founder & Atari Lynx Co-Inventor has passed away

After so many have passed away this year already, it is both with a heavy heart and sadness to say that Dave Needle, Co-Founder of the Amiga Computer, Co-Inventor of the Atari Lynx and vice-president of 3DO passed away yesterday 20/02/16.  Dave Needle was well known in the completion of the Lorraine project (Amiga 1000), and was also one of the main engineers of the custom chips of the Amiga computer. Later co-inventing the Atari Lynx which we knew as that cool little handheld that plays games such as California Games. Away from his Hardware engineering status, he was also a character, he had a great personality and was loved by many. As can be seen by the pictures provided by Marcel Franquinet and the video below.... RIP Dave Needle, you'll be missed!

Dizzy - The big reveal and a new book, coming 24th October!

Usually the site is in top form with it's news for the latest announcements, especially as we gave you the big heads up for a possible new Dizzy game coming directly from the developers themselves. Well after being a little late ( It was my Birthday :p ), I'm pleased to give you all the news, as The Oliver Twins, will be revealing a brand new Dizzy game at The Centre for Computing History - Cambridge : 24th October 2015! That's right gamers, the 1980's is coming back in an all new Dizzy adventure, starring both Dizzy and his girlfriend Daisy. Read on for the details.

Could The Oliver Twins be making a new Dizzy game?

As you well know I and many others are huge fans of the Dizzy series. A famous egg going way back to the 80's, who went on grand adventures, talking to the YolkFolk, solving puzzles and most of the time having a really bad experience with the evil Wizard Zaks. A character designed by the legendary 'Oliver Twins' that has gained such devoted fans, we've seen countless remakes and Dizzy fan games from a multitude of home based developers. Even though we've played all the games such as Dizzy, Treasure Island Dizzy and the others, we were very disappointed to hear of the failure of the Dizzy Kickstarter, which looked like it was to be the most incredible looking Dizzy yet! But all is not lost, as over these past few weeks, it looks as if The Oliver Twins have been hinting of a new Dizzy game!

Indie Retro News is going to PLAY Margate!

We are a huge fan of retro gaming conventions, especially ones that are full to the brim with retro games and hardware mixed up with a little bit of indie. Sure we've seen Eurogamer (although I wasn't impressed), I've always had a soft spot for GEEK in Margate, as I can relive days gone by and clicky joysticks.  Well after our recent feature of GEEK 2015 which was a big let down compared to their previous events, with it being a more modern oriented show (Lots of PS4's/Xbox ones!). The true retro spirit is coming home as from tomorrow! Yes indeed, 'PLAY Margate' the original organizers of GEEK will be at the Winter Gardens, Margate from the 21st to the 23rd of August.

As such Indie Retro News will be there and we personally can't wait to show you all the awesomeness this show has to provide when we come back.

3D Realms kicks ass with a 3D Realms Anthology Steam Edition!

What a great week of retro gaming this has been so far, and now we have 3D Realms glorious era of gaming available to buy on Steam with the '3D Realms Anthology Steam Edition'. It's such a great moment to be a retro gamer, as after many years the hit company has returned with classic games that have been loved for many years. Games such as Blake Stone, Wacky Wheels, Duke Nukem, Shadow Warrior and many more are all available for just £22.49!

Sam's Journey - Jaw dropping C64 platformer gets an update!

Last month on the 1st of April we gave you the big heads up about a brilliant looking smoothly animated C64 game in development titled 'Sam's Journey'. Developed by Knights of Bytes, which is about a cute little hero called Sam, this latest gif update shows off some of the new climbing technique used in the game such as grabbing structures and climbing vines. Also according to Knights of Bytes Sam can even swim, this enables him to explore the depths of the underwater passages that he encounters on his journey.

Axiom Verge - A hit Action and Exploration Platformer coming to Steam May 14th!

We've just had the best news for today as Axiom Verge, an action and exploration platformer which has gathered high grade scores on consoles, is coming to Steam May 14th, 2015. In the style of Metroid and other action platformers with tons of weapons, items, and abilities, each with their own unique behaviours and usage is one fantastic unique artistic styled game you don't want to miss.

PLAY Margate - Indie and Retro gaming show coming to Margate 21-23RD August 2015!

At the beginning of the year Indie Retro News went to GEEK 2015; a gaming show that I had hoped had all the greatness of 2013 with lots of retro systems, retro market stalls and the odd modern console. However sad as it may be, GEEK 2015 was a big let down compared to their previous events, with it being a more modern oriented show (Lots of PS4's/Xbox ones!). However we've just been informed by the Replay team that 'PLAY Margate' is coming to the Winter Gardens on 21-23rd August. The same team behind the gaming greatness of the first 3 GEEK events, is coming to Margate! So if you want the best in Arcade, Indie and Retro Gaming, come to ' Play Margate 2015 '.

ZX Spectrum emulator Spectaculator gets a great update!

Jonathan Needle, creator of the excellent ZX Spectrum emulator 'Spectaculator' for Android, IOS and PC has just announced that the classic 80's Magic Knight series and Skool Daze is now available for download with Spectaculator. Also announced is full support with iOS game controllers such as the Moga Rebel,  Mad Catz C.T.R.L.i,  SteelSeries Stratus and many more. So if you want the best ZX Spectrum emulator for your Android or iOS based device then give Spetaculator a try, which plays not just ZX Spectrum game files but also has a number of classic games included.

Onwards and upwards - Site changes!

You may or may not have known but over these last few days I have done a number of tweaks and back end fixes to Indie Retro News, including brand new pages and better linking on the left hand side for homebrew fans. I also personally felt the site has been a little slow and also the search option was not as good as it should be. Half the time in using search it would not show even the latest articles or those that I have searched for, this has now been fixed.

Another tweak was made to the social media sharing options which has now improved on site speed and given (you) the reader more places to share our news. Finally apart from a slight design change in colours, width and badge buttons, clubliefde has done us a really splendid logo, which I feel gives the site a more modern kick! Hopefully our readers like the changes and if  you like our site spread the news far and wide about the latest Indie Retro News :)

Dolphin December 2014 Announcement - The latest Wii/Gamecube emulator with lots of improvements!

Dolphin is a rather impressive emulator that emulates two Nintendo video game consoles: the GameCube and the Wii. It allows PC gamers to enjoy games for these two consoles in full HD (1080p) with many improvements. What has largely gone un-noticed is the fact that the latest December build and into Jan is packed full of new features which will most likely make Dolphin users drool at the mouth. Merry Christmas from Indie Retro News!

What a great year it has been, full of cool retro products for us to review such as the SD2IEC, C64SD, Mega Everdrive and the C64p. We've also come across some fantastic Amiga titles, from the hard drive installable Ambermoon and Evil's Doom to the PC playable Amiga titles from The Company.PL and of course not forgetting the Amiga Earok CD32 releases. Also new to us this year was our huge interest in the Homebrew scene, the Amstrad, Amiga,C64 and even the ZX Spectrum. We've even put some free titles on our site for the retro fans like Eye of the Beholder and even Shannara!

Let us also not forget our new affiliates which joined us including, CIA,Dungeon Crawlers, GOG.COM to FireFlower Games & Photon Storm. It has also been a year of Kickstarter games and brilliant Indie titles, especially the latest Cinemaware overhauls with Wings and the latest Rocket Ranger Reloaded. I'm also hugely grateful to our staff who write up some lovely articles, from Alistair, David, Dan, Illisia and the rest of our fine team. But to end the article for our Christmas holidays, a huge thanks to every one of our readers that visit us from around the world, especially those of you who follow us on our Facebook pages (Dizzy, Dungeon Crawlers & Indie Retro News) and Twitter.

SkySaga - Minecraft style MMO reaches Alpha 2 stage!

Only just last month we announced "SkySaga"; A fantastic looking Minecraft style multiplayer game by Radiant Worlds which is currently going through early Alpha testing. Today's announcement is that SkySaga has now reached an Alpha 2 stage and is available for closed testing by invite through registration. A lovely game indeed which I was able to test last night. As it features new lands to discover such as sea, snow, sand, fields and mountains where you can create, build, dig, harvest trade and much much more. SkySaga really is full of charm and immersive detail that I actually preferred over Minecraft. I just hope they put in a bigger FOV and Mouse Acceleration settings.

3D Realms is alive again! 32 game Anthology released!

What an incredible Friday it is, with Cinemaware's latest release news and now we have 3D Realms coming back from the dead. It's such a great moment to be a gamer, as after many years the hit company is returning with brand new games, new talent and that kick ass enthusiasm! The return will also feature the original team such as Scott Miller and Bryan Turner and what's more, to announce this news the developers have released for $19.99 an awesome anthology of 32 classic games!

Legend of Grimrock II - Epic Dungeon Crawler gets a Oct 15th release!

Top news today as the developers Almost Human Ltd have finally announced the release date for the sequel to the incredible Dungeon Crawler; Legend of Grimrock.
