This game that by many is regarded as the pinnacle of the JRPG genre in its time and still a highly sought after game today, has returned loaded with upgrades as a bonus for all fans of the original! Indie Game Maker Contest 2017 - Over 250 RPG Maker entries ready for playing!

It was only just last month we announced the Indie Game Maker Contest 2017, a contest in which gamers from around the world came forward to make a game using RPG Maker, in a competition with over $10,000 in cash prizes! That competition which was actually by the same team behind RPG Maker, has been flooded with games all aiming for that big prize, and not only that but these games are playable with many of them being pretty damn good indeed!

Legend of Zelda - Another work in progress Zelda clone has appeared on the ZX Spectrum

As some of you are aware just yesterday we announced Team ZZX's in development Zelda clone game that was coming to the ZX Spectrum at some point during 2018, well that game isn't the only one that's in development as we've just been told by the creator David Clarke, that he is also making a Legend of Zelda game, and that one is being developed using Arcade Game Designer. In light of this news there's even more footage to show, and even though it doesn't have sound, it looks pretty decent!

Zelda ZX - Team ZZX has just teased a Zelda clone on the ZX Spectrum

During the last few months we've been keeping you up to date with the latest developments regarding the possible Zelda like game that was coming to the C64, but now as a hot off the press announcement, Team ZZX has just contacted us through our email of a Zelda game that is in development for the ZX Spectrum and coming in 2018. Although not much else is known about the game, this very early sneak teaser shows a treasure chest opening, and some sweet Zelda music.

Oh what a glorious day it is today for Zelda fans, as in celebration of 10 years of its first release v1.0 by Euclid & SePH, The Legend of Zelda : Parallel Worlds on the SNES has been enhanced and improved upon with a ton of new additions and fixes by qwertymodo. Regarded as one of the hardest and most popular hacks as a fan overhaul of the Legend of Zelda : A link to the Past, already had new graphics, new music, a new overworld/underworld and a new storyline, but as of today it's even more awesome!

Glory of Heracles IV - Milestone English fan translation for an EPIC SNES RPG

I was wondering when the next Romhacking special would appear especially towards Christmas, and sure enough here comes another English translation, and this time it's for the Japanese game ' Glory of Heracles IV ', or the proper name Heracles no Eikou IV: Kamigami Kara no Okurimono. Now translated by the Nightcrawlers Translation Corporation (Nanashi), this is an EPIC JRPG with a deep story and gameplay that blends Greek mythology, the story of Pandora’s Box, and the quest for eternal life with similarities to the Dragon Quest games.

BS The Legend of Zelda: Ancient Stone Tablets - An Obscure Zelda game gets a BIG translation and more!

What an incredible end to the week especially for Zelda fans across the globe, as BS Zelda no Densetsu, also known as 'BS The Legend of Zelda: Ancient Stone Tablets', has received a full English dub restoration. If you've never heard of the game, which until today included me, it was a score attack version of 'A Link to the Past', featuring high quality CD music and voices, but had to be played during a satellite broadcast. This rather jaw dropping release on the SNES according to Romhacking, is a full 4 hour English dub restoration available in both the original music arrangement and a custom orchestral arrangement. It also features a full voice cast including professional voice actress Kira Buckland (Danganronpa, Disgaia, Skullgirls) as Zelda, and is even playable on real hardware with a sd2snes.

Vixen 357 - Turn based war on the SMD gets a full English translation

It's a new English translation for a Monday and this time it's the Japanese turn based war game on the Sega Mega Drive ' Vixen 357 ' . First released way back in the 90's and published by NCS, Vixen 357 is a seriously cool tactical turn based strategy game featuring powerful mechs and other such dangerous weaponry. If you've ever played games like Battle Isle, with units being moved on a grid system, then you'll know what to expect with this game.

YIIK: Episode Prime - The MixTape Phantom and the Haunting of the Southern Cave demo

This month AckkStudios released their rather wonderful short demo tease, YIIK: Episode Prime - "The MixTape Phantom and the Haunting of the Southern Cave" for both PC and MAC. Regarded as a Supernatural Japanese style RPG with action based micro games, you star as Vella Wilde, Alex Eggleston, and Claudio Erlich on a quest to uncover what happened to Sammy Pak, who disappeared after being pulled from an elevator by something out of this world.

The Legend of Zelda Link's Awakening DX Hero Mode - Zelda classic just got much harder!

Zelda fans stand up and take notice, as the original hit 1998 classic ' The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX ', which is a remake of the critically acclaimed 1993 game Link's Awakening, that featured colour graphics, compatibility with the Game Boy Printer, and an exclusive colour-based dungeon for the Game Boy Color, has just got much much harder! Yes indeed, you can now play The Legend of Zelda : Links Awakening DX in an all new Hero Mode, which has minor edits to the original level design, enemy placement and much more while also making the game harder and far more challenging thanks to a hack by the_icepenguin!

Ara Fell - Stegosoft Games aims to impress with their JRPG/RPG release!

Usually when it comes to games developed using the RPG Maker software, I tend to avoid them. As most of the time they are extremely poor, quickly made and hope for a quick cash grab through Steam. However that doesn't look to be the case with Stegosoft Games, RPG ' Ara Fell ', which combines the best parts of a JRPG and western RPG, as well as including elements of visual novels and adventure games! Developed in RPG Maker 2003, Ara Fell has all new monster graphics, sprite poses, panoramas, faceset alterations, battle animations and all new tiles.

Kingdom of Loot - 16bit Online JRPG that's free to play, is now in Early Access

I don't usually mention free to play games that are online, as usually they are pretty poor and contain a lot of micro transactions, but when it comes to 'Kingdom of Loot' by EpicBeyond Studios I'll happily make an exception. This is a 16bit JRPG inspired by many of the classics, as not only does it have lovely SNES style art work with a lot of effort put into it, but this game has full online multiplayer action and according to the developers has a big potential list of features that may draw in the crowds.

Eastward - Early development for an artistic action adventure

This week has just got even better as we have a very graphically appealing game to show you today as an early work in progress title for the PC and maybe consoles. This is ' Eastward ' developed by Pixpil Games using their in-house framework based on the great MOAI engine; an action adventure that the developers hope will be like Zelda with some JRPG style storyline, that will appear at some point on Steam when it's complete.

Celestial Tear: Demon's Revenge - Sci-fi fantasy JRPG coming Nov 19th

Block Legend DX - Colourful game coming to PC via Steam Greenlight

Dot Warrior Games have had the mobile game Block Legend on Android and iOS for some time now (with a 4.2 rating from over 1600 ratings on Android) and with a nice mix of great pixel art and great chiptune music, is easily one of the most polished JRPG's around at the moment. Now they are Looking to bring the DX version to PC via Steam Greenlight.

Developed by Grandpa Pixel and currently going through a Kickstarter campaign, Legena: Union Tides is a turn based RPG mixed with a modern twist. Available for PC, Android, OUYA with Linux, Mac and Consoles as stretch goals; Legena features a traditional JRPG combat system with a more dynamic flavour. According to Grandpa Pixel this game will have plenty of other interesting features such as exciting characters, evil villains, unique dungeons and some pretty nifty ideas such a weather which affects battles, skilled based feather system and a morale feature which rewards moral choices.

Pier Solar HD - Beautiful JRPG game gets an official trailer!

A huge Kickstarter success of $231,370 for Pier Solar HD will finally be in the hands of gamers as a release date of September 30th, 2014 for PS4, PS3, STEAM, and OUYA has been announced. Pier Solar HD is a huge 16 bit JRPG featuring over 50+ hours of gameplay, over 300 locations, nearly 500 unique treasure chests, and over 800 NPCs to talk to. The developers have also released an official trailer to go with the release date announcement and it does not disappoint, it looks gorgeous!

Celestial Tear: Demon's Revenge - Sci-fi fantasy RPG - Gets an Epocu campaign!

White Guardian Studios have just informed us that Celestial Tear: Demons Revenge, which is a Sci-Fi fantasy RPG is now going through both a Epocu Campaign and also pushing for votes through Steam Greenlight. Although the developers didn't have a Kickstarter success, they have mentioned to me that this 90's JRPG inspired game will have another Kickstarter during early September. With beautiful landscapes, lovely stylish graphics, inspirations from games such as Final Fantasy 7, Chrono Trigger and the exploring and puzzle solving of Wild Arms 2nd, lets hope that Celestial Tear: Demons Revenge has more success on it's second run.
