A Pig Quest - An incredible Commodore 64/128 game by Antonio Savona and team has been released!

What a fantastic news story for you all, as looking through the C64/C128 Facebook group earlier today, we've just found out that the eagerly awaited Commodore 64/128 game of 'A Pig Quest' by Antonio Savona, Mauricet, Aldo Chiummo and Gaetano Chiummo, has finally been released for all to enjoy. To coincide with this hot news story, not only is there some animated gifs to look at, but there's also a video of the game in action below.

While we have mentioned this game right from the very start, A Pig Quest looks to be an incredible action platformer that only features 200 screens across 5 worlds filled with gorgeous C64 details and dynamic weather effects. But also a brilliant 36 situational SID soundtrack, collectable items, dangerous foes to battle against such as bats, and all of this set with secret areas, cinematic cutscenes as a fully PAL/NTSC and GS compatible game with support for second fire button. So yes if you have a Commodore 64 or Commodore 128, this is one game I can assure you will be right up there as a contender to Game of the Year 2023.

  1. Just picked this up and what a great package. Comes with the game (crt file), a full color PDF manual and a massive game soundtrack with all the SID music in MP3 format. Cheers to the dev! Instabuy for me.

    3. No, can you safely use a credit card... or do you expect to shop online by paying with banknotes?

    4. No... he probably wants to pay by bank transfer.

    5. Use only bank transfer in 2023 and have no credit card?
      anachronistic.

    6. It's a red flag if a company only uses PayPal. Google Pay is a no brainer.

  4. Just bought, I got the download version ... I have been playing there for a few hours but I noticed an annoying bug. As soon as you die, in the first world, quickly loads the death sequence, the inhabitant screen and a new game starts immediately as if I were continually premised. It does so with the vice64, a C64mini, the Hoxs64 with or without active Joypad. Does it happen to you too?

    1. Yes, it does the same on real C64. I also though it was a little strange but there is only 1 life.

    2. It looks like they already fixed that problem. Version 1.01.

    3. Bug deleted! Excellent service to Protovision, the problem has been reported and in a few hours I was able to redeem the version without problems.

  5. The video in the link was kind of bad. 60hz choppy fps. Here is video from real C64 https://youtu.be/nhI1xGLVxYI

  11. Dunno. I don't like the pig character/theme and the time restriction.

    1. I like the pigs but the game is intentionally made too difficult with cheap tricks like the timer.

    2. Just want to add that me too I don't like timer in these kind of game, I bought it and tried it yesterday, everything looks and sound very good, I'll play it seriously after I finish the game I'm playing now. Still, I haven't played enough to see how much this timer is an handicap to the game... but 20 mins for the first level is maybe enough. But what is more frustrating than to have to do all the level again just because of time running out... especially if there's no reason for time.. like a ticking bomb or something in the mission. I don't think I'll hate this game for this but Timers are Evil ! lol

    3. It's almost impossible to run out of time. You'd have to meander through the screens aimlessly to actually time out (and you'd be dead before that anyway). also press SPACE to pause :)

  12. I think quite a few of the C64 games are good, but less fun without the trained versions (no high score for a trained game is a reasonable separation). Level design and balancing then seem made for the devs, but not for players who want to have fun without trying to master it by going through too many death and repeat loops. For such games, the real fun often is buying the game, but playing the trained version. So, more relaxed balancing and level design, more gaming options or trainer available at release. If you really dig a game and have the time , you can afterwards still play it, the way it's meant to be played.

    1. If your idea of fun is playing a trained version then probably your money was better spent watching a movie.
I completed the first three levels already and the time limit is not even a limit: there's probably enough time to explore each level twice.

    2. Playing a nicely flowing game and watching a movie are two different kind of things. Sometimes I do like a challenge, like when playing Arcades, sometimes I do not. Quite a number of the C64 games are balanced more on the hard side.

A trained version can turn games into fun, if you like an idea, the gfx and sfx but disagree with the level of difficulty, when you're playing (which might vary). Nice to hear, that the timer isn't a big deal, but why is it there at all. I'm generally no fan of timers as game design elements.

  16. Purchased on itch.io . great game! Not easy but really enjoyable. It has arcade-like shooting but also puzzles to solve to get through the levels. Each screen is just majestically beautiful. Very good playability, smooth. It doesn't scroll but toggles smoothly from screen to screen. Very smartly done and beautiful to look at.
Most of us are old-timers now, 50-something. we can afford to buy the game and contribute and reward the artists that worked on this. In another 50 years we could all be dead, but I think this game will still be up there at the top of the best games ever made on C64.

  17. Bought it. Game is gorgeous. Unfortunately ladder controls are bad though: diag-up/down moves player at the top/bottom immediately (??), and when you jump you auto-climb the ladder which can be a problem when shooting at many flying enemies: better use jump+up to to grab the ladder at jump...
    @Antonio Savona
    Please fix these control issues!
