Eagerly awaited SNK vs CAPCOM for the C64 gets an Alpha release!

Once again there's another C64 game that's well worth a mention, as thanks to Jon Eggelton and Saberman letting us know through our Indie Retro News Facebook group, we've been told that Jon Eggelton and Gianluca Alberico has released an ALPHA version of the eagerly awaited game of 'SNK vs CAPCOM'; a new C64 game which is using their in development fighting engine known as RetroFighter. To coincide with this HOT news story, Saberman has also done a video showing the game in action.

Unlike before when we said that Retro Fighter is a new work in progress C64 versus fighting engine with new features implemented such as a new UI and colour selection for each player, intro sequences before the battle commences for each player, flaming hits and projectiles, special moves, and different battle arenas. What has changed since the first shout out is.... The game is not only still called SNK vs CAPCOM of which we mentioned before, but now includes the musics for all the stages, guard breakers and reversal moves, stage selection in versus mode and complete character storylines with intermission and even ending animations!

Next video will be for the final release and then, hopefully, another special release will be created only for C128 that will include stage scrolling too.

  1. This looks super impressive. So glad its finally got sound. Apart from ik+; I've been waiting for a great beaten up to land on the c64 for decades and soon it'll finally be a reality. Not to mention, a port of one of the best beaten ups ever made. Massive congrats to all involved. Still hoping we get something similar one day on the Amiga, like a decent conversion of sf2.

  4. This project looks and sounds very impressive, except the sprites doesn't look that good to me. maybe they look better on a real CRT?

    1. I'm not the dev, but let's be realistic here. It's a C64 so you have to manage the size of the sprite, keep it fast and consider the chunk of the pixel. I'd say they did a great job considering the confines they had to work in.

  5. Can you put B.B. Hood/Bulleta from Darkstalkers in this? Pretty please? She already has a sprite from the NeoGeo Pocket Color SNK vs. Capcom game that you pulled a lot of the currently implemented characters and animations from, and she's one of the most fun fighting game characters of all time imo, so I think she'd be perfect! Besides, Darkstalkers needs more love in this game's roster :)

  6. Ive recently brought a 2btn retropad to use in your game. Unfortunately the kick button, while it does work occassionally is very unresponisve. The punch is ok? ive tried the pad on Super mario and it seems to work fine on that. Since the game is still in development is there a problem with the kick button being unresponsive? Thanks.
