LEMANS - A 1982 game published by Commodore Electronics Ltd gets an unofficial 2023 version

Something of a surprising release this late Sunday evening, as if you remember playing the 1982 game of LEMANS by Commodore Electronics Ltd, then as of just recently a new version of the game has been released called LEMANS 2023. As in the words of Crystalct "Old Lemans game updated. 3 different machines selectable, covered wheel cars, gears (Low & High), slightly more defined hero car sprites, brake and other small changes available in this new release". To coincide with this late news story, Saberman was kind enough to do yet another retro gaming video!

Here is what the C64-Wiki site says about the original release " "Le Mans" is a car racing game where you need to drive as far as possible in a certain time. By overtaking other racers (which partially have a bit of an unconventional driving style, which does not make it easier) without causing a crash, points are added to your account (1000 points per 10 cars). If you reach more than 20.000 points before the time has run out, you receive further time units and you can go on driving. Next to the normal track you need to master driving on ice, in curves, at night and on motorways. If you crash you need to drive into the mobile garage (PIT), which is at the left roadside, which costs you valuable seconds. Additionally the number of cars overtaken until now is set to zero."

  1. Cool! Le Mans might look, well, basic, but it is more to it when you actually play it. And the modifications might give it even more replayability. Will check it out.

    2. Worst game ever is a bit much. It was an early Commodore title and one that may well have been coded by the legendary Iwata. There's a nice write up here. https://www.threefieldsentertainment.com/2018/12/07/le-man-commodore-64/

    3. To me this is an incredibly fun little arcade racer. The update is appreciated even if it wasn't needed, because the game is an evergreen to me in it's original form anyway.

  3. Wonder if the driver still pops out of the car on fire and rolls around to put it out, if you crash hard enough?

  4. As the original is a very early C64 Game, released in 1982, but still nice to play today (Check out the review and comments on lemon64). Calling It worst Game ever makes me think If there might be some confusion or mix-up as to what game we are talking about.
And isn't the game with the car and driver on fire actually Rally Speedway (the pinnacle in two player racing games, by the way ;)
