Flying Shark - WIP Flying Shark remake for the Commodore Amiga 500 gets a new demo

A new Commodore Amiga news story has appeared in our inbox, as we've recently found out through the EAB forums, that the previously announced game of Flying Shark. A new Arcade to Amiga remake by Magnus T together with JMD and John Tsakiris(GFX). Has recently been teased with a new one demo that you can download and play right now. To coincide with this news, Saberman has not only provided a link to the demo, but he's also done a video of the game being played below.

As we said before in all of our previous write ups, originally many people felt the Amiga version that was released in 1988 by firebird was not only a bad conversion of a great Arcade game, but many people also felt that it had repetitive gameplay, the port was lazy, and the Amiga could have handled the arcade gfx with no problems. So here we are with this new remake of the game! While we are unsure of how far development will progress until its official release, already we can see the game looks better than ever featuring high quality graphics, sound and more.

    1. The dev is using a poor quality download site, so it's exceeded it and probably requires a log in. I'm hoping Saberman will change to his own one tomorrow :D

  4. This really shows just how lazy and slapdash ports to home computers were back in the day. And then compare again to the ports on home computers that were popular/only in Japan like the MSX/MSX2, FM Towns and X68000. This looks a lot more similar to those genuine efforts.

    1. A lot of the devs porting these games back in the day were trying their best with the limited time and resources they had. Nowadays devs have modern IDEs and can easily rip graphics and reverse engineer code straight from the arcade version. Japanese devs working on systems like the X68000 tended to be working for much more professional outfits and the hardware itself was a lot more powerful for these kind of games.

    1. Instead we mainly got crappy low effort ST ports made in half an hour on a friday afternoon before the devs went the pub.

  8. Looks great. May I suggest adding the shadow before the plane takeoff to give the feeling of getting off from the ground.
