CityCat Prowl - This teased cat project for the C64 by Polytricity, is looking rather decent! [UPDATE]

What do you get if you mix up the isometric style of The Last Ninja and blend it altogether with a bit of cat complexities? Probably this game! A new Commodore 64 project by Polytricity called 'CityCat Prowl'. This game, created by Robert Ramsay, will have you not only playing as a friendly feline, but you'll also be prowling through dynamic environments both above and below ground, while also completing tasks and interacting with other characters. So yes, this is one game that, if it does gets finished, may well be a big hit with the C64 community.

Here's the latest from the website. "A game where you play as a cat just walking through the city streets looking for adventure, interacting with the locals, getting into situations and just trying to find his way home. This game will be a nod to the 4:1 isometric ration rarely seen on C64, have full bespoke bitmaps, handcrafted in Backdrop designer and McDraw, and finally, will have fully animated sprites with 8-way directional control created in Spred64".

Still to do:

  • put together a working demo
  • add music
  • add interactions and things to do

The road ahead:

  • If demand is high, consider a complete physical version for C64's planned sequels (Way of the paw and Art of the Claw) introducing combat [no spoilers]

The team:

  • Working with the awesome talent from Megastyle
  • Robert Ramsay [Art] [Prototyping]
Update : According to the creator a new build has been released with the following noted on the website "For those who donated, you get access to the recent PC build (the gamemaker version used for prototyping) , C64 production is on hold until we have the prototype fully figured out. Recent update includes the first few puzzles to solve, currently once you get the key that's as far as we've got so far =)"

  12. This has a lot of potential.. please give the cat stuff to do.. let him sit and relax / purr. Let him scratch things. Don't add horrible pixel perfects jumps (as seen in Last Ninja).. Add secrets for him to discover.
Hopefully the game will be a relaxing one, not a lesson is frustration - like the games that inspire it. I look forward to seeing how it turns out!

  13. C64 + fast storage with "infinite" capacity, aka Flash card. Then you can put there a sea of good graphics and music. Games up to the level of Final Fantasy for SNES /FF4+/.

  14. I wonder if they had an idea for a game, complete with game loop, or if it was like, one wanted to make a game with this type of graphics, and the other one last played Big Citty Little Kitty. ;3

  15. Can you add a pub called 'The Barking Cat'? That's the name of my pub... and having it in a cat based game would be awesome! :D

  16. In contrast with the backgrounds there is plenty of room and need for improving the cats animations/movement.And by the way I wonder if the quadrupedal protagonist would be a typical cat in avoid enemies/obstacles and solve logic and enviroment puzzles in an isometric platform/arcade puzzler or beside the insp whole inspiration setting (The Last Ninza/Japan) it will include elements of the Japanese Mythology, where cats can be Magical creatures that incorporate certain special abilities (which you may discover/unlock while progressing ingame)

  18. Wow, really beautiful art. Great to see it's hand-crafted and not AI driven as well, some real effort and love has clearly gone into this one already and I hope it makes it through development into a complete game! Good luck to the devs, keep up the great work!

  19. CityCat Prowl on the C64 looks surprisingly solid 🔥 love seeing retro vibes still alive today. And Geometry Dash Mod APK God Mode is just insane fun never losing, just smooth runs all day. Both show how gaming old and new can still keep us hooked in different ways.
