Wardner - Toaplan/Taito's Arcade game gets a Commodore Amiga level 3 Demo via RetroRic

Fresh off the press for the Commodore Amiga community, as not only is the 1987 Arcade game of 'Wardner' still coming to the Amiga via RetroRic, developed using Earok's Scorpion Engine. But as of today you can download a new level 3 demo. If you've not heard of this game before, it's a side-scrolling platformer developed by Toaplan and published in arcades worldwide by Taito in 1987. A game in which you play as Dover on a journey to rescue his kidnapped girlfriend Mia from the evil warlock. In light of this news, we've got some new footage of the game below.

And here's the full details. "Released in arcades and published by Taito in 1987, Toaplan's Wardner is an action platformer in much the same vein as Ghosts 'n Goblins/Ghouls 'n Ghosts.  The similarities end there though as Wardner has its own special mechanics and flavour to bring to the genre. Players assume the role of a child named Dover on a journey to rescue his kidnapped girlfriend Mia from the dastardly warlock Mr Wardner.  Development is currently ongoing but please feel free to leave comments and feedback on the current progress.".

  1. I think it's not really worthwhile covering arcade conversions to older machines. I think the Indie retro scene should be about showcasing new original software titles which deserve more attention. The Amiga is dominating news with all these recent conversions which seem to appear almost weekly, and many are just news about demos too.

    1. Are you mad!! It's very much worthwhile as there is a HUGE fan base for arcade conversions. Just look at the response on Amiga Bills streams. There wouldn't be much to talk about either lol. We've got new games, arcade conversions, 8 bit port conversions. BRING IT ON!

    2. Hard disagree. These are great games that provide excellent practice which can also be used for original games. It doesn't have to be one or other, not forgetting to mention that how someone chooses to use their free time to create anything (free) for a retro machine is entirely up to them. It's ok that it's not how you think it should work but many are enjoying seeing these, including me.

  2. One of my favorite games! I'm happy to read that it will be converted to one of my all-time favorite computers, the Amiga!
