Pitfall II - Lost Caverns arrives on the Commodore VIC-20 + 35K by gekka

Well, this is an unexpected treat! As I've been informed that a fan port of Pitfall II: Lost Caverns, specifically designed for the Commodore VIC-20 has been released. Developed by programmer gekka and coded entirely in 6502 Assembly, this 2026 release should hopefully appeal to those who remember this great game from the Atari 5200. Players are invited to step back into the boots of Pitfall Harry to navigate a treacherous subterranean world filled with winding tunnels, hidden treasures, and lethal subterranean enemies.

Gekka has successfully integrated Level 2 from the Atari 5200 version, giving players a much larger expanded environment to explore that was absent from many other versions of the game. To run this ambitious homebrew title, you will need a PAL or NTSC VIC-20 console paired with a 35K memory expansion. The game fully accommodates modern retro setups by offering support for both keyboard and joystick controls, making it easier than ever to dive back into this fantastic classic.

  2. A good number of Vic-20 arcade port single screen platformers have been very impressive despite limitations. To see a multi screen game like Pitfall 2 is quite a surprise I wasn’t expecting. Not the arcade version but the Atari 2600 version port.
