Amiga developer Acidbottle has announced a new horizontal shoot-’em-up project, aiming to deliver a faithful recreation of the classic arcade hit Defender. The game’s journey to the platform is a unique one, having initially started development in the Godot engine on PC. To make the jump to the Amiga however, the developer dusted off the unfinished framework and utilized modern AI tools to assist in translating and optimizing the code across to the Amiga, while using the official arcade source code as a strict reference point to hopefully bring across an authentic gameplay feel.
At present, the project is in an early alpha phase, meaning there is still plenty of work left on the horizon. The current build targets high-end setups, requiring an 020 processor, AGA chipset, and fast RAM, though the developer is open to exploring a more accessible OCS/ECS version down the line once the primary version is complete and feedback given. So if you want to play an early build then check it out via the official Acidbottle Itch.io Page and report any software glitches or "weirdness" to help refine future updates.
