Capitán Sevilla - Arcade Platformer Remake based on the 1988 classic!
Today I'll be taking a look back at the Captain Sevilla remake, which was originally first released in 1988 by Dinamic Software for a multitude of systems, including the MSX,Spectrum and Amstrad CPC. This was an 8 bit game and developed in Spain, as such many English gamers will probably not remember Captain Sevilla. Captain Sevilla is a 2d side view arcade platformer in which you can jump and smack enemies, while eating sausages. The graphics are of considerable high quality for a remake way beyond the original!

DOOM on the ZX Spectrum
Doom was never officially released on the ZX Spectrum , nor was it released on any other system of that time. Doom was just way beyond in computer development, but now you can play it in very retro style, thanks to Digital Reality. This looks as if it was officially released on the ZX in all it's first person goodness, it's a damn fine Remake. But don't get too excited, as although you can play the game, it's just a Demo and you'll most likely need an emulator. If you can't get it to work, sit back and listen to the awesome chiptune that comes with this release!

Fantasy World Dizzy 48k - Retro Puzzle Solving Platformer (Browser Based)
Finally the fourth of the online "Load" Dizzy playable games has been released thanks to the guys of yolkfolk. This is Fantasy World Dizzy, a very classic retro game from 1989 and released on multiple systems, including this one, the 48k version. This was the first Dizzy adventure to feature many additions which later became standard for the series, such as having three lives, an improved inventory system and a balance between puzzle-solving and hazards. This game also introduced the friendly Yolkfolk: Daisy, Denzil, Dozy, Dylan and Grand-Dizzy. Good old Grand-Dizzy was my favorite, usually found in his old chair.
Games I remember with a remake - THRUST
I'll say it right now, Thrust was an incredibly fun game for such a low budget title. It was published by Firebird Software Ltd and released in 1986 and for what it didn't have in graphics, it excelled in the fun factor. Thrust came on many different systems including the Atari 2600, Amstrad CPC, Atari 8-bit, Atari ST, BBC Micro, Commodore 16, Plus/4, Commodore 64, Electron, Vectrex, and ZX Spectrum. I myself spent many hours of enjoyment plus frustration on my Amstrad CPC playing this game. The simple task of pulling out Klystron Pods, out and into space ended up with either, your ship pulling the pod into the side of a cave, or you smashing your ship into another object. But it had far more to it than that!

DSP Emulator - All in one Emulator, with many systems featured!
Now this is certainly an impressive Emulator as it not only features the ability to play ZX SPECTRUM +3 games, but the ZX Spectrum 128, ZX Spectrum 48, Arcade, Amstrad CPC 464, NES and Game Boy as well. This is a work in progress Emulator which means it will feature some bugs, but it's always being worked on. This is the DSP Emulator and is a pascal open source Emulator which is using the Delphi/Lazarus environment and is capable of running Zips, Tapes and Roms.
ZX SPECTRUM - Lots of games playable in your Browser!
Ahh the fun of the ZX Spectrum, with all the enjoyable beeps to go with it. So now you have the chance to relive most of your Spectrum youth through this online java based emulator. There are a lot of very old classics with this browser based emulator, such as the above "The Trap Door". However the controls are very fiddly and that's just the easy part!

Father Jonah Saves the Day - ZX Spectrum game Wizard’s Lair tribute (Browser Based)
Not exactly a remake but a tribute to a very classic game called Wizard's Lair, released in 1985. This was a January 2013 entry for One Game A Month, but it was actually done in less than a week. It uses the bonus theme for January (‘portcullis’) and it’s a tribute to Stephen Crow’s magnificent ZX Spectrum game Wizard’s Lair. What I like about this tribute is it works in any browser, yes you can play it at work ;)
Games I remember, with a remake - Green Beret
Over the next few months I'll be doing articles on the games that I remember and I'm sure many of you will do as well. They will take us back to the time of squealing tapes, or slow loading floppies, a time that many of us enjoyed and when developers put so much gameplay into such small data sizes. You'll be able to play the remakes and relive those times as if they were just released today. Well today it's time to look at Green Beret, an action, arcade platformer from way back in the mid 1980's.
L'Abbaye des Morts - Retro Platformer with a Spectrum ZX flavour
A fun retro style platformer which looks like it just came out on the Spectrum ZX, is L'Abbaye des Morts. You'll come across a horror style game, which is set in an old church of the Spectrum Era, with its dark background and bright
colors, and comparing to Manic Miner and Jet Set Willy.
