The Settlers History Collection - 25 Years Anniversary!

Ever since 1993 I've always had a soft spot for that classic game ' The Settlers ', there's something about the game that makes it highly addictive, whether it's the managing your own village, mining for minerals or conquering the lands around you that pulls you in. In fact right from that very game I have played every sequel and although I did enjoy the later ones, they still never matched the first and second game in the series. Thankfully it seems Ubisoft also wants you to enjoy those memories as today they have announced 'The Settlers History Collection'; a 25 year anniversary celebration as a re-release of all seven previous installments in one great bundle!

TwinWorld: Land of Vision - The Company.PL are back with an old Amiga game via PC!

Some time ago on Indie Retro News, we used to love writing about the latest unofficial Amiga playable games on the PC from our good friends The Company.PL. But sadly not long into 2016 the releases stopped, as personal issues took their tole on one of the main guys behind the releasing team. Thankfully however as of today we have good news, as not only are The Company.PL back in action, but they've released the Amiga to PC playable game as a single trainered exe file, 'TwinWorld: Land of Vision'.

Ubisoft RPG Classic Iron Lord Gets Patched By T.A.C

You've all played Moonstone right? (who the hell hasn't?). You all know how awesome that game was, well Iron Lord on the C64 by Ubisoft which has recently been patched by TAC to iron out some of the original bugs, is like a mini version of Moonstone, complete with adventure, exploration, fighting, and archery! The archery competition is no doubt the best part of the game, it's slightly repetitive but still lots of fun, it almost reminded me of Hypersports, trying to pick the right timing and angles to hit the board.

Hurlements - A very old UBIsoft title is now a full PC remake

Way back in the late 80's that well known company of Ubisoft, released the graphical adventure game ' Hurlements ' for the Amstrad CPC 6128 as well as DOS based systems. It was to my knowledge a French game that few have heard of, but it was very similar to their other adventure game ' Zombi '. Which featured multiple areas, multiple characters, a first person viewpoint, command based icons and a task to get away to avoid being eaten. I'd love to say to you how awesome the game was, but this is the first time I've heard of the game, but now thanks to a developer by the name of Arnaud, he has ported the original retro title over to the PC as a full remake!

Fantastic Ubisoft classics exclusively on GOG!

What an incredible day this is turning out to be! Lots of new Amstrad games, a C64 competition, an Amiga shoot em up release date news, and now our friends GOG have let us know of the exclusivity of Ubisoft classics appearing on GOG.com. Yes indeed, Ubisoft has just pushed out some of the best games I have ever played on the digital store page, with fantastic classics such as Archimedean Dynasty, Albion, and Anno 1602 A.D.

Celtic Legends - Classic Ubisoft Strategy from the Amiga to your PC

So here we are with the first game of the day and it's an Amiga game given the PC treatment by The Company.PL, 'Celtic Legends' originally released by Ubisoft in 1991. In this strategy hex based game of strange beasts and magic, you play as a powerful wizard Eskel against the evil Demog summoning mighty legions and powerful beasts on the land of Celtica. Search through the island for enemy forces, kill them and the evil wizard to free the island once and for all!

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon imagined on the Commodore 64!

Majami Hiroz is back with another C64 styled imagining of a modern game, the same creator of those YouTube videos of GTA: Vice City & Watch Dogs but in a complete C64 look. This time however Majami has gone one step further and turned Ubisoft's first person game Far Cry 3 : Blood Dragon into a Commodore 64, 1985 visual feat. If you wanted to know what Far Cry 3 would look like on a C64, then this will show you exactly that!

Heroes of Might and Magic III HD - A classic turn based strategy in HD!

Although I'm not personally a fan of Ubisoft going by what they did with the latest Settlers release and yes they are an AAA company, I'll have to give them credit for announcing that the turn-based strategy classic Heroes of Might and Magic III is coming back with all new HD detail. First released by New World Computing back in 1999, HOMM III was very similar to its predecessors in that the player controlled a number of heroes that command an army of creatures inspired by myth and legend through turn based strategic thinking.

Game Info :  The Settlers series was a fantastic set of games going right back to 1993 on the Amiga, a game which, when it was released, enabled you to play in split screen against your friend by developing your own mini Settlement. The player was tasked with building a Medieval Settlement populated by an army of workers, each of whom perform their own individual task. These Settlements were joined up by pathways, and each path had a transporter who could deliver the goods back and forth, say from a Mill to a Bakers, which helped grow your Civilization. It was so much fun and the core roots of the game have never changed, though graphically in style it has come a long way. There was alot to do and Settlers 2 Gold was one of my all time favourite games, especially as your ship crashes on the coast and thus begins your task to develop your Settlement into a great Empire. The moving tree's and the birds chirping or your little men fishing to bring back food added to the atmosphere of the game, a game worthy of an all time classic!

Flashback - HD Remake (Action Platformer) Update

Since our last article, I wondered if this was really true and yet it is, we are getting a Flashback HD remake/remaster, however.... It's going to be published by Ubisoft, so expect Uplay and most likely some form of DRM. This is 20 years after the original game's launch of the hit Amiga side scrolling platformer. Apparently the original Core-Team are behind this remastered version but with the latest generation detail, though remaining true to the classic, that made the original so great. However not one to be so negative, but as a huge fan of the original I'm not liking the remastered dark colours, nor the bad music and terrible voice over!

Might and Magic X - Legacy : Pax Gameplay!

In mid March we teased you with Might and Magic X - Legacy via Ubisoft's announcement, and here comes the first cam video from Pax. This looks like it could be a great Dungeon Crawler RPG, going back to what made Might and Magic great, and not towards Messiah! However going by the video, I'm a little concerned that he didn't stray from the path as if that was the only way to go, we shall see. There are also feedback posts coming back from Pax to tell us a bit more about the game itself.

Might & Magic X - Legacy

Finally we have more information regarding Might and Magic X - Legacy, and going by the video above they are going back to what made Might and Magic great. Epic dungeon crawling in a first person view point and no this isn't Heroes, with it's top down view. We have mentioned before the earlier teaser and what might be shown at Pax, so it's great to see hints of what might come our way. Although as it's published by Ubisoft, I do have my concerns of hardline DRM and online connections, so let's hope the developers Limbic Entertainment really push out a great title.

Might and Magic X - RPG Teaser!

There is not much to go on at the moment but it looks like a brand new Might and Magic will appear at Pax East. Now this will be an AAA title, but the reason it's being notified from here is because Might and Magic was a classic retro dungeon crawler going way back to 1986. It had a great story, tons of enemies to fight, lots of dungeons, a number of villages, npc's and lots of loot! It will be interesting to see what style of Might and Magic Ubisoft will show us.
