Pinball Dreams on the Amstrad CPC - An EXCLUSIVE First Look!

Released originally in 1992 on the Amiga, Pinball Dreams, the game which claimed to be a 'real pinball simulator' became somewhat of a fan-favourite and cult classic. Released on many different system over the years including the likes of the Super Nintendo, the Amstrad CPC never saw a port as the humble 8 bit system was pretty much out of the video gaming picture by '92. None of the home micros received a port in fact. The Commodore 64 got a preview version in 2006, but was never fully completed into a full game despite the C64 fanbase begging for a full version. But surprisingly, in 2016 the Batman Group who specialize in creating amazing demos for the classic computers, released a preview of an Amstrad version of the Digital Illusions masterpiece. Now, in early 2019, we have a full completed game which will dazzle CPC fans and 8 bit gamers as a whole.

The Brief History of.... Paperboy

Atari Games brought us a memorable arcade back in 1985, which had handlebars as a controller and the aim of the game was to.... deliver newspapers. Yes, newspapers were this type of paper media publication years back where we used to get our news about the world, before the internet took over. They still exist, but are increasingly irrelevant. I digress. Paperboy was the game in question and by golly it became a bit of a success. Many of the then current systems received ports of the suicidal newsboy, to various degrees of quality. In my latest episode of Brief History, we look at all 30 of the ported games, including it's underwhelming N64 reboot, and it's home only sequel.

Amiga's best gaming idle animations montage

Games can be very addictive! You load it up, play for what you think is an hour, and suddenly half a day is gone and wonder what the hell you are doing with your life ;). But sometimes it's good to have a break, and when you do walk away from the computer or console you might just notice something interesting happening in your game. The character might turn to you and yawn or take a seat and even get angry, this is an idle animation. Something that adds that extra charm to the game and what dreamkatcha has featured in his brand new video 'Amiga's best gaming idle animations montage'

51 DOS game intros - Over 2 hours of nostalgia goodness!

Call me an old timer but I love talking about the days of DOS, a time when the only thing in front of you other than a computer was a blinking command prompt waiting for you to run a game such as C:\, C:\Dune and Dune.exe. So to hear from einokeino303 that he has done a spectacular Youtube video in relation to 51 great DOS game intros, my mind was blown and wanting more!

Amstrad CPC Vs Amstrad GX4000 - Port Comparison!

With the recent additions to the retroscene showcasing the Amstrad GX4000 console with the 'Eerie Forest' and 'CRTC3' demos, it's a perfect time to re-present my series of videos showing the often touted 'CPC shoveled' games and the differences between the versions. 15 of the 26 games released for the GX4000 on cartridge were ports of existing CPC tape or disk games. It's commonly thought these ports are identical to the CPC originals and therefore not worth the higher price tag and majorly contributed to the failure of the system.

GOTHALION Official Intro - A worthy pixel art gaming video you've got to see!

Indie Retro News is a real sucker for great pixel art, especially as on many occasions we find it hard to pick our jaws up off the floor when a game is announced that has some of the best pixel art going for it. But when it comes to videos we usually hold back unless it's something crazy that makes us think OMG I've got to tell everyone about it. So here we are with the GOTHALION Official Intro, an incredible mind blowing retro based pixel art video that was done by PixelSword94 with music by Tiasu. Seriously watch the video and take it all in, it's brilliant!

The Rise and Fall of Command & Conquer - A franchise retrospective by GVMERS

It's incredible to think that Command and Conquer now dates back to 1995, as the first game in the series and one of the earliest of the RTS genre's by none other than Westwood Studios, who were also famous for games such as Dune 2, Lands of Lore and even Legend of Kyrandia. It was a game series that featured full motion video cutscenes with a top quality cast to progress the story between each deep and involving strategy mission, that really set it apart in high quality from games that are even released today, which was a devastating blow when the company closed in 2003! So as a look back at all the highs and lows, GVMERS has done a fantastic video as The Rise and Fall of Command & Conquer - A franchise retrospective.

Giana Sisters - A retro gaming classic as you've never seen before... designed using LEGO!

We've certainly heard a lot about that famous platformer the Great Giana Sisters from 1987 over the years, especially as it came back to the Amiga through Reimagine games as an awesome overhaul called ' Giana Special Edition '. But have you ever seen the game designed in Lego? Well now it's time to surprise you, as a Youtubber by the name of Lego Gameplay Retro Classic has converted the first stage using Lego pieces that is completely animated!

TFV#46 - Atari ST vs Amiga 500.... Duelling Banjos!!! - This is awesome beyond words!

It doesn't matter which retrogaming group you join, at some point someone will cause a flame war between the two rivals the Amiga and Atari ST. When I grew up I didn't care what system was being played I enjoyed them both, which can't be said for some peoples viewpoints. The 464 Project 128k Expansion - 128 MORE Games on the Amstrad CPC464

About 18 months ago, I made The 464 Project; a compilation video to mark the 31st anniversary of the Amstrad CPC464. Since then, people in the retro community have been in touch about a follow up video, and mentioned memorable games that I missed the first time around. So, here is the expansion... 128 more games on the CPC464 featuring favourites like The Addams Family, Maruader, Spindizzy, Sub Hunter and many more. If demand continues, I may even create a 3rd video with the many games I still haven't shown. Until then, Enjoy this slice of Amstrad action.

SpongeBog Demo - The wackiest C64 tune you'll hear all week!

As you know Indie Retro News prides itself on mentioning games, teasers and compilations, but the latest C64 SpongeBog Demo by Max of Flat 3 Hackers was just too good to miss. This is one of the wackiest and most upbeat tunes I've heard on the C64 by far, and apparently the music is related to the catchy tune playing at the Spongebob Arcade Machine, which is located at Planet Fun, Ingoldmells. In fact it's so good, Max has gone that bit further and added bashing bog lids which bang away in time to the beat!

If you want to know more about the Amiga, it's historic story and how it become the legendary system that it is known as today by many retro heads such as myself. Then you really should watch Nostalgia Nerds latest Youtube Part 1 video of ' The Amiga Story '. According to Nostalgia Nerd, who is well known for making great retro system reviews and stories, This episode deals with the "up" part of the story, and takes place during the 1980s. It charts the conception of the Lorraine machine (that would become the first Commodore Amiga), the early years and team spent working on the machine, the buyout of Atari followed by Commodore, the launch of the original Commodore Amiga machine (later renamed the Amiga 1000) and the subsequent Amiga 2000 and Amiga 500 machines which conclude before 1989 is out.

C4CPC Unboxing, Playtest & 3D Printed Case Assembly

It's been a big 18 months for the Amstrad community. Not only have we been treated to a plethora of great games, emulator updates and hardware mods; the much fabled GX4000 got it's own bit of retro-loving in the form of a flashcart, the C4CPC. Many 8 bit fans already to know of this, so here I take a look at this really neat bit of kit, show you the ropes (Roland style of course) and even take a look at the 3D printed case you can create for it. One of the must-own modifications for Amstrad fans in Novabug's book.

Hard Chiptune Mix 2 - Over an hour of in your face hard ZX Spectrum beats

It's been awhile so I thought it was the right time to once again bring out the tunes, and more especially ZX Spectrum ones. If you love a damn good rave and throwing your arms into the air like a mad man with a retro computer by your side, then the latest Hard Chiptune Mix 2 upload from zmix coming it at 125 bpm and featuring over an hour's worth of hard/acid/break tunage, is just what you need. Red Alert 2 remade in Unreal Engine 4 and featuring VR!

One of our good friends Ethan Knight has just come across a really eye opening bit of news, as the RTS classic ' Red Alert 2 ' developed by Westwood Studios and published by EA in 2000, has been shown off as a proof of concept in Unreal Engine 4 by Ádám Horváth. Not just that, but this seriously good RTS which is still very playable today, is being played using VR (HTC Vive in room scale mode). I think you'll agree this is mighty impressive and shows off the follow-up to Command & Conquer: Red Alert in a completely new light.
