Speedball 2 Ultimate hits your C64 soon! Get some Ice Cream! [ RELEASED ]

With the World Cup in full swing, it seems everybody is talking balls right now. Not one to buck a trend so here's Speedball Ultimate! A brand new, updated version of the classic angry sportsman sim that is coming very soon! [ See Update ]

The classic 90's future-sports sim that mixed violent handball, Ice Hockey, a side order of pinball, and a big dollop of Ice Cream. It appeared on every system from the Acorn Archimedes, Atari ST, Amiga, CD32, PC, Commodore 64, Sega Megadrive, Sega Master System, Gameboy, Game Boy Advance, and even the NES (although they called it Klash Ball for some odd reason). Yes it's none other than Speedball 2, a 1990 game developed by the immortal Bitmap Brothers as the follow up to 1988's Speedball

Brought to you by Ste'86 and team via Excess, this latest version takes the original Commodore versions of Speedball and Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe and revitalises them completely, including originally cut graphics and overhauled visuals.

Not that the C64 original needed much work doing to it. There's no such thing as a bad port of Speedball 1 or 2, as it's just an endlessly playable series. Even weaker entries like the Playstation reboot, the oddly renamed Klash Ball on NES, and the kinda ugly Steam HD version were all super playable. I mean, I even dig Rageball and that's an absolute crock of fock.

Sorry, I digress, but I have a kinda thing for Future Death Sports. It all started when my dad wouldn't let me watch Rollerball on late night TV cos it was "too violent", but I taped it anyway and then wrote on the video that it was the Care Bears Movies so he'd never know.

Returning to Speedball Ultimate then, it totally holds its own against the best ports. From the beautifully crunchy sound to the zippy little sprites, it's going to go down well with the C64 scene; And with an official release date of "Anytime in the next few weeks" this is one speedball you can catch real soon, and until then you can always watch the football. Its kinda similar except nobody dies, nobody breaks for Ice Cream, and all the players kinda dress like schoolboys rather than bad ass Terminatorcops.
