Scuttlebutt - Behind Enema Lines: New game from Karl Hörnell for C64

Veteran Game developer and Cartoonist Karl Hörnell has ported his free to download ZX Spectrum game: Scuttlebutt, to the C64. Karl created a number of games for Interceptor Software while still at school. These included Clean Up Time, Velocipede, Fruity, Ronald Rubberduck and Toad Force. These were all pretty much entirely solo projects. As working for a UK company whilst in Sweden kept him isolated from the rest of the in house development team, and no internet or email to share knowledge. Even so, his games are well regarded, even to this day.

Scuttlebutt - Behind Enemy Lines is a tongue in cheek (ew!) multi level game where the aim of the game is to stop the giant alien butt invasion, or at least collecting as much shit from them as possible and depositing it in the toilet before it spills on the floor. The levels play similar to Nintendo's game and watch game: Oil Panic.. until you've cleared a few waves and then you get a gun and get to strike back. Karl has also made available the game's source code, which alone gives a great insight into the man's toilet humour. Just takke these few lines as an example:

This is a great fun game, perfect as a free download, controls are great, graphics are bright and colourful, combined with great animations and arcade style gameplay. It's nothing too ambitious, but chasing those high scores will keep you hooked. If you want to see some gameplay for yourself, I'll be playing it live on my Twitch stream tonight from 7PM BST. You can join then, or click the follow button to receive the going live notification. Also I'll be joined by Andy Roberts of Thalamus on Monday 24th September from 7PM while we play and discuss the first Thalamus release on C64 for 25 years: Hunter's Moon Remastered!

You can also read more about Karl Hörnell in his inteview with Vinny Mainolfi in the latest issue of FREEZE64.
