Ambermoon Advanced - A BIG unofficial extension and remake to a great Amiga RPG is here and it's AWESOME

We've featured 'Ambermoon' many times now on Indie Retro News from the updated Amiga version, to the open source PC remake. Both versions give you hours worth of enjoyment of an incredible 90's RPG that not only featured 3D graphics that were considered revolutionary for the Amiga, but it also had high-quality graphics, a large number of enemies and cities and more. Well today's news is yet again pretty special for those of you who loved playing this classic game back in the day, as Pyrdacor has just contacted us to let you know that Ambermoon Advanced has been released as episode 1 and 2 for the Amiga and PC.

But what is Ambermoon Advanced I hear you ask, well it doesn't just enhance the original game, but contained within the advanced version, is new additions such as a new companion, new doors to open, new monsters, new items, amazing new places to explore, dangerous dungeons and much more you'll just have to watch the video above to see for yourselves. Seriously with the amount of additions and changes Pyrdacor has done to the advanced version I'd be here all day.

  1. Too many options. Which version should one play? I'd probably like to play it on my Amiga, too.

  2. Really want to try the Amiga version, but can not get it to run using the PUAE emulator through Retroarch. Is there a WHDLoad version available anywhere or set of config files that could be used? The regular LHA will not boot, nor the main file or .info

    1. It should work with just the files. There is no need for WHDLoad. Just extract the LHA and start the Ambermoon exe in the root directory. If this doesn't work, is there some error?

    2. Not so simple to answer. PUAE (Retroarch) is a bit different to WinUAE in that it can be a bit more temperamental with files. It works well with file images generally - adf, lha, hdf, WHDLoad, and they'll work if there's some kind of pre-configuration embedded, say like an .adf file template, .info file or .slave for preload, and they're pointed at the hunk data. Because PUAE appears to be designed to work with extension and images, rather than directly with hunks - it often won't work with the underlying files directly, not without some additional help. The A500 mini is similar perhaps in that regard. Having a WHDLoad option will likely help to get it working. Using the current file structure, it won't run the Ambermoon file or exe in the directory directly, as it won't recognise the file type.

    3. Through a bit of persistence, I've finally managed to get this to work. For PUAE users - download the zip file from github and then extract. Set the target file / load content to ambermoon.info in the folder directory and then start emulation. Hit F1, then go to core options, media and find the WHDLoad support option and change it to = Off. Restart and this will boot into the Amiga CLI -> type in only 'ambermoon' and this will force the game to boot (and this is a good point in time to save the games core option) . Not as elegant as WHDLoad, but it does work. Now if I can only make the CLI part into a boot script in Launchbox...

    4. Found a way to get this boot without having to use CLI in PUAE. Follow all the above instructions, but copy into the directory the SRC folder from decompressed file WHDLoad file. It should contain at least the following files - kick31.s , kickfs.s , it may also contain the following file - nonvolatile.s . Once added the game will boot like WHDLoad file. Just change the launch file from 'ámbermoon.info' to 'ambermoon.slave'. It should now work with the WHDLoad support can be changed back to = Files.

  3. Can't seem to get the manual in the US, is there a way to do so?
