Boulder Dash 2 Rockford's Revenge - A classic game by First Star Software has been ported to the Amstrad CPC

Image Updated

We've featured the 1984-1985 Boulder Dash game a lot these last few years, what with the release of Boulder Dash Junior II The Final Dig and Boulder Dash Senior to name but a few for the Commodore 64. But now as a complete surprise to us, we've just been told by Saberman, that if you have an Amstrad CPC, you can play the latest port of Boulder Dash 2 Rockford's Revenge by pmeier: a game that was originally released on the Atari 8-bit, Commodore 64, MSX and ZX Spectrum.

Here is what the creator says about his port, which was first released in 2021 and then updated today via the cpcwiki.eu forums "I'm proud to announce that I have ported Boulder Dash 2 Rockford's Revenge to the CPC. I took the BD4 (construction kit) engine and converted all the original levels. To achieve this: I exported the BDCFF levels into CrLi format with GDash. Then wrote a Java converter to generate caves for BD4. I also imported the C64 title screen and the music, which doesn't sound good, but this is already a problem of the original music..., but you can blame it on my conversion".

  1. As it is a port, was it a port of something official from the 80s, or an original game made by fans? I vaguely remember playing Boulder Dash 3, but never Boulder Dash 2 on my CPC. So I wonder, if I skipped out on it, or if it wasn't ported back then.
