Well this is incredible news, as one of my all time favourite games 'The Settlers II' is coming to the Commodore Amiga AGA as of October 18th 2025. According to the press release : After almost 30 years, The Settlers II will finally be available on the Amiga starting October 18, 2025! Officially licensed by Ubisoft Entertainment, the Gold Edition of this legendary city-building strategy game has been faithfully and insightfully ported by Look Behind You, proving that true classics are timeless.
Furthermore they go on to say. "In 1993, The Settlers made a major impact on Amiga gaming and created a whole new genre: the city-building strategy game. When the even more ambitious sequel, The Settlers II, was released in 1996, it was a huge success and remains a fan favorite to this day. Unfortunately, the king of home computers missed out on it. Almost 30 years later, this gaming history is finally being corrected! With an official license from Ubisoft Entertainment, The Settlers II Gold Edition will be available natively for the Amiga on October 18, 2025. Not as a quick port, but as a lovingly optimized version that shows what the Amiga is really capable of".

Steep system requirements indeed. I wonder if this works on my pistorm with a rpi3 ?
ReplyDeleteYes, and quite well, if you're using the HDMI video (on a 1200, at least)
DeleteDefinitely. You should be able to run it in 1024x768 smoothly. And I do not think these requirements are steep. My last game (Heretic 2) had PiStorm as MINIMUM requirements. That was steep requirements.
DeleteI hope, someone will make a MorphOS conversion later on, until then it will remain a PC game for me.
ReplyDeleteIt will work on MorphOS using the WarpOS emulation.
DeleteIsn't the thing with MorphOS that it can run amiga software natively?
DeleteWarpOS version will be PowerPC native, so that is better for MorphOS than running the 68k version in Emulation.
DeleteYou know...I am getting this game just because it needs 600 MB of hard drive space. I likeAmiga games that need large hard drive spaces....
ReplyDeleteThis will be great, I spent many hours on the original, Look forward to getting this version :)
ReplyDeleteWhike it is a great news, I wonder why the system reuirements are so high compared to the MSDOS/Win95 version.
ReplyDeletehttps://dugarm.tripod.com/pages/settlers.htm
They aren't. PC requirements where 66 MHz 486 minimum, P1 75 MHz recommended. A 66 MHz 486 is comparable to a 40 MHz 040, a P1 75 MHz comparable to a 100 MHz 68060.
DeleteOn Mac, the required configuration was 68030 with 16MB RAM.
DeleteDidn‘t really run nice on a 030 mac though. I guess „runs on 030“ was more political. Also Both memory Speed and graphics speed are worse on 030 Amigas.
DeleteI remember the Amiga Expo in Cologne when I was like 15. Sunday, last day. After a long day running around I discovered a somewhat hidden booth (I remember the lack of posters and marketing for the game) with an Amiga and a guy presenting his game. Was it already part of BlueByte? I don't know. But the it was Volker Wertich and he showed me, a child, his upcoming game The Settlers for nearly an hour! I vividly remember him beaming with pride and it was one of the first times that I felt taken seriously as a teenager by an adult outside my family. I hope he's still kind to others and enthusiastic about his projects today. And boy, am I glad that Settlers 2 finally arrives on Amiga! :)
ReplyDeleteAwesome story.
DeleteI have been waiting so long for this to happen. Yippee
ReplyDeleteThank you. It's exactly for people like you why we worked so hard to port and publish this game for the Amiga.
DeleteFor MorphOS is possible ?
ReplyDeleteLicence is only for AmigaOS, so no native MorphOS version is possible. The AmigaOS 3.x WarpUP Exe works fine on MorphOS though. AmigaOS 3.x WarpUP, AmigaOS 3.x 68k and AmigaOS 4 are all supported.
DeleteWow! I remember the first attempt to bring this game to the Amiga was aborted because BlueByte wouldn't release the rights. I was really disappointed by BlueByte back then.
ReplyDeletePre ordered 4 me ;-)
ReplyDeleteVery cool! Big fan of first and second game - I didnt really like the other titles in the series... At this point in time it should be also stated if it works with emulation.
ReplyDeleteSettlers II was possible with 030 Amiga with Mac68k emulation?
ReplyDeleteVideos I saw of Settlers2 on 68k Emulation (and with something higher than 030) looked jerky, in comparision.
DeleteMake sure there's an option to download updates from the internet and play via LAN and the internet. It would also be great if it worked on the new Amiga NG/A1222+, because I see that the future may hold many more surprises than we expect :)))
ReplyDeleteI think you need the Collector's Edition to be limited to 150 or 200 - as 100 has already been pre-ordered!
ReplyDeleteThis shows that Amiga is the most important retrocomputer, you dont get such releases for C64/Spectrum, Atari ST, Amstrad, or classic MAC. We also need Star Control 2 AGA, Civilization 2 AGA, and Master of Orion 2 AGA.
ReplyDeleteSteep system requirements for the second game, Settlers 1 always for the win, still the best in the long running series.
ReplyDeleteOh, this so great. It will really mean a lot to have a second Settlers on Amiga.
ReplyDeleteThey should have shown real gameplay. Filmed
ReplyDeleteWill it. Work on the mini amiga
ReplyDeleteWill it work on mini amiga?
ReplyDeleteAs to Mini Amiga it only allows 10 mb for Amiga Apps and Emulation settings JIT disabled and CPU Speed limited. Settlers 2 needs at least 17-18 mb (for higher res 20-21 mb). So unless it is possible to Hack the System it does not run. I am told such Hacks are possible by Users on English Amiga Board though.
DeleteProbaly yes, it will be shipped with the upcomming The A1200 next year, wich should have the same specs as The A500 but this time with a working keyboard.
DeleteJust keep your self informed.
I do not think it will have the same specs, but higher specs instead. Still I would expect the specs are not an issue for Settlers 2 on the A500mini - the changeability of Emulation Settings is. But it might be possible to workaround this by not-included-in-a500mini-software.
DeleteIf you have AGS. Runs absolutely smooth on 640x480, ok on 800x600. 1024x768 does not work on the mini.
