Throughout this month we've featured a number of open sourced remakes. From games such as the brilliant Transport Tycoon on the PC, to Rollercoaster Tycoon and one of my personal favorite's called Diggers. Well thanks to a heads up via the EAB forums, it looks as if Mike Singleton's 1989 classic Midwinter is also getting a full PC remaster by DrEvil. A faithful recreation in which the creator says has blessing by Chilli Hugger (who held the remake rights).
Here's the latest from the developer with a downloadable pre-alpha build below. "I've been working on a ground-up remaster of Mike Singleton's 1989 classic Midwinter, with blessing from Chilli Hugger (who held the remake rights). Built in Rust using the Bevy engine, the goal is faithful recreation - same mechanics, same 32 recruits, same desperate guerrilla war against General Masters across that frozen 160,000 square mile island. On that note I would love feedback from anyone who remembers skiing into combat with nothing but grenades and a sniper rifle. This is a WIP - hoping to be at beta release in April/May."
