Bubble Buddies - A reimagination of Bubble Bobble, arguably the best c64 game ever?

If you enjoyed Taito's Bubble Bobble in the Arcades or at home, then you'll be pleased to know that not only can you still download Dave Retro Forge's graphically superior version of 'Bubble Bobble Remastered' for the C64, or 'Bubble Bobble: Lost Cave', which is a true spiritual sequel to that classic arcade game. But as of today, geon3 has released 'Bubble Buddies' for the Commodore 64. A reimagination of Bubble Bobble, arguably the best c64 game ever according to geon3.

Here's the latest. "Bubble Buddies is a reimagination of Bubble Bobble, arguably the best c64 game ever. With 100 brand new levels designed for maximum happiness, Bubble Buddies emphasizes unique level design with a wider range of gameplay and a slightly easier playthrough with a smooth difficulty curve. All graphics have been polished to look their absolute best within the narrow constraints of the c64. Most of the sprites are made by the talented Davide Bottino for the 2025 release of Bubble Bobble C64 Remastered. This is not a rewrite, but a hack of the original game. Only the content has been changed, along with minor bug fixes."

  1. "graphically superior" - many people can't even tell the difference.

  2. Great hack for sure! But, I did notice that jump is not also mapped to a button like it is in the previous hacks, Lost Caves and Remastered, which I miss - never did like jumping by pressing up on the stick. Hoping that can be added in an update since the previous games had it. I also miss some sound effects, i.e. when Bub and Bob blow bubbles there is no sound effect like in the arcade. I realize I'm nitpicking, and maybe it's not possible for technical reasons, and I know we are lucky to have all these great new games for our beloved old systems!
