Torvak the Warrior - GreenSnake releases a Godot PC remake of an Amiga 16bit classic

A cult classic from the 16-bit era returns as Greensnake releases a modernised PC remake of Torvak the Warrior, a legendary barbarian rebuilt from the ground up using the Godot engine. Independent developer Greensnake has released a faithful yet significantly enhanced remake of the 1990 Amiga hack-and-slash platformer, Torvak the Warrior. This new version serves as both a nostalgic trip for retro fans and a technical showcase for what is achievable in 2D platforming using the Godot Game Engine.

True to the source material, you control the titular hero, Torvak, a warrior armed with a signature double-headed axe. As you traverse hazardous levels, you must battle relentless aliens and navigate dangerous platforms. The game maintains the original's unique "cracking" mechanic for bonus items. Special statues found throughout the levels require two hits to yield their rewards; the first blow cracks the stone, while the second causes it to crumble, revealing essential power-ups

    1. Its Java source code only as well, so you need a player. It works in the itch.io app though

  3. Great game. The original version was like Rastan but a bit slower. The graphics of the game really made it stand out but there was definitely some room for improvements. I would've liked to see an AGA version with some enhancements, speed tweaks, music and fx together. Perhaps this might even be a template for that?

  4. A good game for sure and i played it on Amiga in 1990 but sfx and music on the same time were present already,at least on ST.The Amiga version was only a rushed port,sadly.

  5. Good bit is you can play through the browser. Crappy bit is you have to pay to get desktop / source code, and it doesn't play well with ShaderGlass through the browser.

    What I really like here is:

    * It's much smoother and faster than the Amiga version (I haven't played the ST version, so can't comment on that version).
    * There are subtle tweaks that do improve things and you feel it as you play.
    * Background highlights and transitions are much nicer.

    Things I really don't like are:

    * Asking for money when it's not your IP (donations for development is ok, but not a paywall).
    * Hidden traps - plants, hands, etc. still blend into the background a bit too much. Giving them more... presence (maybe through color changes or an outline will help).
    * Doing this as a PC title, instead of an Amiga redux. This could've been an enhanced AGA version, and run on PC desktop through emulation using pre-configuration.
    * Some further palette adjustments wouldn't have hurt.
    * No on going music throughout the level, only at the beginning.
    * Jump hack is still a pain, especially when attempting to take out archers.
    * Holes in the background in some areas
    * Can't set 4:3 aspect ratio (TV) or 7:5 aspect ratio (Monitor) - so image is stretched if you go full screen.

    Nice start though. I'm glad this exists.

  6. There's absolutely no point in making a PC version. The PC already has Winuae, which runs Torvak the Warrior perfectly. You're just copying it. Make NEW GAMES FOR AMIGA = Winuae !!! thanks

    1. Right. And why not fix the contrast issue between Torvak and the stones on a new PC version? It makes no sense at all.

  7. I remade the first two levels of Bionic Commando, in GameMaker, playable in a web browser. Look for Super Joe on GX Games. No one was really interested as they would rather see it improved on Amiga as opposed to the PC
