GODGAME - An in-dev Populous inspiration for the Amstrad CPC 6128!

A promising new god game is currently in development for the classic Amstrad CPC 6128 or a CPC with 128k of ram, drawing heavy inspiration from the legendary strategy title Populous. Titled as 'GODGAME', this in-development project by SoftDevil casts players in the role of a benevolent deity, easily identified by the bearded, crowned king avatar positioned in the top-left corner of the screen. The gameplay revolves around divine management and expansion, tasking you with guiding your loyal people as they settle flat lands and build up thriving residential villages.

Strategy is dictated entirely by numbers, where your overall divine strength is directly tied to the total population of your houses combined with the collective power of your citizens. The ultimate goal is a battle of demographic endurance against a rival deity; the moment you run out of followers, a "DEFEAT" screen marks your downfall while your opponent claims "VICTORY." Because the title is still right in the middle of development, the creator is actively seeking constructive feedback and feature suggestions from the Amstrad community to help shape the final release.

A Few Words on Development

  • I started counting instruction cycles and replacing loops with unrolled code. Old Z80 forums are great resources for more tricks.
  • Custom font engine. True proportional font (the same engine as in an Elite clone
  • Yes, AI was used during development, but perhaps not in the way many would expect. I will provide full transparency near the end of the project.
