Kitsune Zero - A charming retro styled PC platformer as a nod to Super Mario Bros

If you want to play a new platformer that not only looks charming, but has plenty of enemies and challenges to be had, then as of this moment you can play the latest release of 'Kitsune Zero' by Kitsune Games. A lovely arcade platformer that isn't just a nod to classic retro games such as Super Mario Bros, but throughout the game you'll be running, jumping, and stomping on ghostlike creatures from Japanese folklore. Some time back we mentioned the Steam Greenlight success of ' Slipstream '; a game developed by Ansdor as an arcade racer inspired by the visuals, music, games and cars from the 80's and 90's. Well fast forward to this week and that same game is finally available on Steam as a game built on a custom engine with an authentic retro feel and unique graphics!

Most of us here love a good dungeon crawler, from Eye of the Beholder to Legend of Grimrock and even the more recent Might and Magic. But when it comes to Arakion: Book One; a new crawler by Arakion and Lavidimus that is due to be on Steam via Early Access this May 15th, things are rather different. You see Arakion isn't just going to be a Dungeon Crawler but a group based role-playing game that pays homage to classics while adding its own style with fresh mechanics.

The Long Reach - Horror filled Adventure on Steam today with a demo

Gamers who prefer a more horror oriented adventure will be pleased with this news, as we've recently found out the thriller horror game of ' The Long Reach ' will be released on Steam today between now and the next 5 hours, ( Depending on when you read this article ). The Long Reach is flavoured with sci-fi ideology, psychological context and a sceptical view on the human psyche. For anyone wanting to play the game early, the developers have released a small demo for you to try.

Ion Maiden - An action packed first person shooter using the famous Build engine! ( Early Access )

Don't get me wrong I do like playing modern first person shooters such as Shadow Warrior or even  Wolfenstein, but in all honesty I prefer playing the much older types, the original early 90's gun in hand blasters such as the original Doom or even Wolfenstein 3D. So it stands to reason why I just had to mention the first person retro inspired game ' Ion Maiden ', which is not only available for PC and Linux as Early Access, but it's using the famous Build engine from 3D Realms; an engine that powered Duke Nukem 3D, Blood, Shadow Warrior and other 90's hits. Of old-school throwback games!

DwarfCorp - Dwarf Fortress meets Dungeon Keeper in this rather interesting strategy game!

During 2013 we announced the Kickstarter for Completely Fair Games 'DwarfCorp'; a Dungeon Keeper, Dwarf Fortress mix, in which you needed to lead a colony of dwarves in their quest for profit in a strange new land inhabited by hostile and savage creatures. This game ended up as a Kickstarter success raising $45,783 and was due to be released as a beta during 2014. Yet fast forward to this month and the game is not only available as an early access title, but it's on Steam for Windows, Mac OS X, and SteamOS + Linux

The Caribbean Sail - Nautical game inspired by Oregon Trail classic releases tomorrow! (19th Sept)

This is great news if you were a huge fan of the 8-bit Apple II frontier game ' Oregon Trail ', as we've recently been told by Victorian Clambake that their upcoming game ' The Caribbean Sail ', will be released tomorrow on Steam in celebration of  Talk Like a Pirate Day. A game which is inspired by that golden classic ended up as a Steam Greenlight success, and as from tomorrow you'll be sailing across the ocean from London to Nassau in the 1700's with only your logbook, your sailors and a crate of food to keep you company.

Tiny Thor - A Jump'n'Run game with style coming Q4 2017

Our good friend Per-Ola Eriksson has contacted us regarding a lovely looking game called 'Tiny Thor' that is currently in development for PC, Mac and Steam OS/Linux and will be coming Q4 2017 featuring the musical talents of the legend that is Chris Hülsbeck. This game which is a Jump'n'Run, goes beyond the usual genre and combines elements of both action, puzzles and even skills with a unique ability to use your hammer as a powerful throwing weapon.

When I was a lad during the 90's my teacher used to keep telling me off for bringing in books that needed a good dice roll to turn the page. It was as if I was playing a deeply involved RPG story but kept deep within the pages was filled with tales of monsters and other such menacing foes. It was none other than the books from Ian Livingstone and Steve Jackson, with one such book called 'The Warlock of Firetop Mountain' which this week has been announced is coming to iPhone and iPad 22nd Feb as a combat turn based RPG.

We have recently been informed by Elden Pixels that their Battle of Olympus and Solstice retro inspired PC platformer ' Alwa's Awakening ', was released on Steam within the last week. In this game you play as Zoe, a heroine sent from another world to bring peace to the land of Alwa. You must use your magical staff against lots of strange creatures and big bosses through many different themed rooms, while also solving puzzles to uncover the secrets in this challenging and charming 8-bit inspired adventure game.

Cayne - Free, isometric horror game from the creators of STASIS now on Steam!

We have just been contacted by The Brotherhood, the creators of Stasis, that they have announced the release of their FREE horror Adventure game ' Cayne ' on Steam, for PC, MAC, SteamOS and Linux. ' Cayne ' is an entire standalone game set in the Stasis universe, based around the expectant protagonist, Hadley, who has woken up in a deadly facility and must deal with many stomach-churning situations to break free!

Demetrios - The BIG Cynical Adventure coming to Steam 31st May!

Last year we did a big preview of CowCat Games upcoming comedy style adventure ' Demetrios - The BIG Cynical Adventure ', which not long after ended up being a Kickstarter success, and also gathered enough thumbs up to be a success through Steam Greenlight. It was one of the most fun adventure games I had played for some time, even at such an early stage of development. It had charm, humorous dialogue, clever adventuring puzzles and death aka Kings Quest. But today the developers have told us, Demetrios - The BIG Cynical Adventure is coming to Steam 31st May!

Slain! - A very gory pixelated platformer available today on GOG

Bard's Gold - Retro inspired platformer now on Steam‏!

Another successful Steam Greenlight campaign for mention today, is Pixel Lantern's retro inspired platformer of ' Bard's Gold' which is now available on Steam. Combining classic platformer elements with RPG factors such as upgrading and levelling up, you play as a Bard on a quest to recover his family's gold after it was stolen by a goblin. If you do not do this in time, an evil spirit may be unleashed upon the world still contained within the treasure!
