Gyruss - Konami's fixed arcade shooter gets an enhanced cartridge port for the MSX

Something for everyone this week as we now turn our attention towards the MSX with GDX's port of the 1980's Konami fixed arcade shooter ' Gyruss ', which is available for purchase as an enhanced cartridge by Eric Boez. This game was first seen in the Arcades and was later distributed as conversion kits, with Parker Brothers releasing contemporary ports for the Atari 2600, Atari 5200, Atari 8-bit family, Colecovision, and Commodore 64. In fact, it's the Colecovision which this MSX port is actually based on and is enhanced by the embedded SN76489, so original sounds and music are preserved.

According to msx.org the gameplay is very similar to that of Namco's Galaga, but instead is played in a forced 3D perspective, with the player's ship facing into the screen and able to move around the perimeter of an implicit circle. Stars come into view at the centre of the screen and fly outward, giving the impression of the player's ship moving through space.

As for the pricing of the cartridge, it can be purchased for €34,00, ex shipping cost (8€ for EU - 9 € for other Countries) and delivery will be end of april 2017. There is also a free online playable version, but that isn't enhanced and doesn't have as many features as the cartridge release.

For further details including requirements and ordering please see the msx.org website.
