Hyper Runner - A wicked sci-fi racer for the Amiga AGA by Raster Wizards gets new footage

I used to love playing racing games such as Outrun, Lotus or even XJ220 on the Amiga. It was a time that gave me the feeling of intense speed and near misses without driving a real car and ending up in the local clink. Thankfully if you too like games like that, or even ones with a more science fiction element to them, then make sure to keep an eye on Hyper Runner; An upcoming sci-fi racer for the Commodore Amiga by Raster Wizards that looks even better in this latest footage!

Hyper Runner is not just an inspiration to the incredible game of F-ZERO on the SNES. But it will have around 15 levels with each having a specific look, the choice of different vehicles to race with, and while the game is some way yet from completion, the game is being coded by Colin Vella, graphics by Tenshu and music by Mike Richmond. So yes this is one game that many Amiga fans across the globe will be looking forward to playing when and IF it gets a release.

  1. some parallax on the mountains background would be great. However very fast and smooth

  2. Looking better but honestly if we want to get closer to F-Zero the game need to have some altitude variation for the terrain.

  3. In my opinion, two things are missing: first, the transparent track on one side of the screen and then the roller coaster effect is missing.

  6. Hmmm, a lot of people seem to be commenting on what’s “missing”….

Maybe we should rein it in a bit as this is a work in progress….

Anyway, this is a fine piece of work and looks really good. Smooth, fast movement and the viewing angle is right - the thing that undoes most Amiga racing games.

Also: nice use of colour. This could easily be an arcade game circa 1985-1987.

The only suggestion I’d make is that as these vehicles appear to be hovering, a shadow underneath them would really sell that effect.

Otherwise, I look forward to seeing what they’ll do with it!

  7. Game looks and apparently plays amazing, only thing I'd like to have, is that, instead of random stuffscaling around the track we had something that ressembles the ones from wipeout, like high tech guardrails, I know it's probablly hard to make it work, but perhaps using the same tricks they used in "Super Stardust"

Of course it would be more complicated because the track has curves and stuff...

    Just a suggestion

  8. I like it, but I have a few comments: There are no hills and valleys. There is no shadow of the vehicle. I don't know what the little green arrows on the road are. Maybe they are pickable items? Either way, the green color makes them hard to see. The speech is terrible. Otherwise, the graphics and music are good! Speed too!

  9. This is way more like OutRun 2019 for the Mega Drive than F-Zero. Adding bridges and alternative routes like in that game would be amazing.

  10. I think this looks really good. Really fast racing game for the Amiga. I would def get a copy. My on critique is in a game with futuristic jet cars and aliens I would just think the tracks would be more futuristic. Seems a missed opportunity to have some cool space like tracks.
