Another Scorpion Engine game has appeared, as looking through the Commodore Amiga Facebook group, I've come across a new demo update for the arcade shooter called 'Rex and the Galactic Plague' by Hoyster Games, with music by Matt McGuire. A game in which the developer says" Just for the fun of it, I’ve been creating my own Amiga game in Scorpion Engine, and this based on a game I wanted to make in SEUCK way back in 1992!" While he does state he's having fun with it however, provided below is the latest footage from a demo, as the full game isn't due until later 2025.
Here's the latest from the description. "REX, a remote exo-containment unit repurposed for a final, critical mission. Armed and adapted for survival, Rex has been tasked with recovering a vital and life-saving vaccine from the shattered remains of the Thoros Foundation. But the Amorni are closing in as the virus spreads, and the closer Rex gets to harder they fight..."
- Battle through several different zones, from crumbling facilities to asteroid fields
- Survive ground and space-based missions with nothing but your wits and the finest Space Corps hardware
- Fight your way to two different endings and alternate routes
- Uncover the secret of the Amorni plan to destroy all life
"Can Rex complete the mission in time before all life is extinguished?"
DEMO UPDATE : The developer has released the last demo for the game and here's the full details "Memory issues caused Rex to hang on booting on certain configurations. I've made some fixes to correct this, so as long as you have 1mb it should be working! It's been a while but hopefully will be worth the wait! As Rex and the Galactic Plague enters its final stages of development, I’m releasing one last update to the demo, bringing together all the major changes and improvements made since the previous release".
What’s new in this final demo?
- The two earlier demo versions have been combined: this final version includes the first three full levels of the game
- The weapons system has been completely overhauled, replacing the original two upgradable weapons with nine distinct weapons (a selection of which are available in the demo)
- New defensive items give Rex extra chances to survive the Amorni assault—though they’re rarer now, so use them wisely
- The HUD has been refined to prevent game pauses when loading and unloading boss health bars
- All story and presentation screens have been reworked to better tell Rex’s story and create a more cohesive world
- A high score table now tracks your best score—or rather, your field rank (as Space Corps would have it!)
