Venture 48k - Another procedurally generated roguelike appears for the ZX Spectrum

The Speccy homebrew community has received another thrilling new title for vintage hardware with the release of Venture48k, a rogue64-ish inspired dungeon crawler tailored specifically for the classic Sinclair ZX Spectrum 48k. Developed by homebrew creator Jason-Indie, this fresh 8-bit title bridges the gap between retro nostalgia and modern mechanics, delivering a game that features 8 procedurally generated levels, rogue-ish gameplay, and entirely original, cutting-edge (ahem) 8-bit graphics and sound.

In Venture48k, players are challenged to plunge into the depths of the mysterious Sinclairyn dungeon. Local myths tell of an immense fortune buried deep within the subterranean labyrinth, waiting for any explorer brave enough to claim it. However, the path to glory is heavily guarded. Vicious monsters roam the dark corridors to halt your progress, alongside unexpected surprises that await you around every corner. The core objective is simple: push as far into the abyss as possible to maximise your high score, while discovering if the fabled treasure truly exists.

  1. Kill monsters by 'walking into them'?
This game looks great but that mechanic seriously needs looking at. The player appears to loose power nearly every time he walks into an enemy.

    1. Yup; that attacking mechanism is atypical for roguelikes. The health loss in battles appears to be random, so you may just have been unlucky.

  2. Great game - you've certainly captured the essence of Rogue64, which is what you intended! Not completed it just yet, but have got to level four. Will keep at it!
