Project X Special Edition (Team 17 game, Commodore Amiga, 1993)
Some things carry a virtual guarantee of quality. If you eat in a French restaurant, or buy a Swiss watch, or a German car, you will be rightly confident that your money will be well spent and you will not be disappointed. I place Team 17 in the same company. For four or five years they had the Midas touch when producing Amiga games. Offerings such as the Alien Breed series, Worms, Superfrog and Body Blows all carried a trademark veneer which stood them apart from most other developers. Graphically the games had a crispness that others couldn’t match and the soundtrack was always of the highest quality. Gameplay was normally well balanced and their products were consistently greeted with a near universal approval. So, looking back, it is such a surprise that with the release of Project X in 1992 that they managed to get things quite so wrong.
Project-X - An Amiga Shoot em up you've just got to play
One of the greatest Shoot em ups I can remember, wasn't the all time classic R-Type, but Team 17's Project-X, which was not only released on the Amiga in 1992, but later ported to MS-DOS. It was a game for its time that excelled in graphics, sound and awesome wave blasting enemies that not only featured cool weaponry, but great powerups such as side defence, missiles and even speed ups. But if you've never played it and want to have a go, then Gamesnostalgia have done a PC/MAC packed version with inclusive Amiga emulator and game file.
Body Blows - Team 17's Amiga fighter available on the PC and MAC
Remember when I said I had more Gamesnostalgia mentions to come, well here's the next one, the Amiga's answer to Street Fighter, ' Body Blows ' by Team 17 way back in 1993. This was according to many Amiga game mags of the time, one of the best beat em ups money can buy, a true corker and one such mag The One even said "If you thought Streetfighter II was the business, think again" . A game worthy to be on the Amiga indeed, released for both AGA and non AGA models and much better than the PC port version, hence mentioning this one instead!
An Amiga week full of surprises! - Mr Nutz, Team 17 and WinUAE
It's always the way isn't it, whenever you take time off either through illness or like last week a much needed break, along comes a news story that makes you feel a bit down beat that you didn't get it done. So what better way to make up for that, than to mention not just one Amiga news story, but three! An Amiga CD32 release from Earok and team ' Mr Nutz ', Team 17 : The Complete Amiga Works by AmigaJay, and a new Amiga emulator beta version ' WinUAE 3.3.0 beta 11 ' from Toni Wilen.
Superfrog HD - Platforming classic now available for Android!
Ah Superfrog, a grand platforming classic that was a gaming hit on the Amiga and PC(DOS) developed in the 90's by Team 17. Yet fast forward to the more recent era and once again you play as a handsome prince turned into a slimy frog by an evil witch, and must rescue your true love with newly found powers in an adventure that spans a generation, in an all new Superfrog HD (enhanced edition). Featuring new graphics, great retro platforming fun, 24 new levels based on the original designs and a Frog Trial – Endless Runner mode you'll be happy to know Superfrog HD is now available for your Android device.
Flockers - Team 17 announces a Lemmmings-like spin-off!
Team 17 are going back to their Amiga roots with a brand new game to the likeness of Lemmings. Unlike Lemmings, you control the outcome of a bunch of Sheep making a dash for freedom from the tyrannical worms. So expect many traps along the way with a very gorish outcome if it all goes wrong! Can you reach the end? Will you save all the Sheep for lush grounds of green or be splattered into tiny pieces? Flockers will be coming to PC via Steam Early Access in Q2 2014. - Flockers will also be available to play at the gaming convention EGX Rezzed, which takes place in Birmingham, England from March 28-30.
Assassin - Team 17's Amiga Action classic for your PC
Launcher Developer : The Company.pl
Game Info : No this isn't Assassins Creed but Assassin, which was a video game for the Amiga system. It was developed by Psionic Systems and published in 1992 by Team 17. You play as an Assassin that has been tasked to kill the main enemy of the game, "Midan". He is then dropped behind enemy lines and must first disable Midan's power source, and then assassinate him. You are armed with a rather cool weapon, a boomerang that is razor-edged. What makes this game even more fun is your ability to climb areas of the game, such as the tree in the above screenshot. With lots of levels, lots of enemies and the name Team 17, you'll know you'll be in with a treat with this game. The game is available to play on your PC via a single file in a slightly higher graphical overtone, thanks to The Company.pl, which have just released/updated to version 2.6
Release : Available now FREE
Systems : PC
Superfrog HD - Platforming fun coming to PS3 and PS Vita
Anyone remember Superfrog? Well I do! It was a brilliant scrolling 2D platforming Amiga and PC(DOS) game. It was originally developed and published for the Amiga in 1993 by Team 17 and then later released for PC(DOS) systems and finally appeared on GOG.com. Team 17 are once again going back to it's roots by pushing Superfrog into the HD era for the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita later this year. Superfrog HD will feature all the levels you remember from 1993 but with all new graphics.
