Encounter HD - An Adventure game originally from 1983 for the ORIC, is getting an enhancement by Defence Force this month!

For the last 10 years or more, I have tried to feature as many different systems as possible, ranging from the Amstrad CPC, all the way to the Sega Mega Drive. Well for todays news announcement we are looking towards the ORIC for our retro gaming fix. As Defence Force has contacted us about his new game that's soon to be released this December via Itch and Steam, called ' Encounter HD'. An upgraded and enhanced version of the 1983 text adventure game originally released by Severn Software. To coincide with this news, we've got some more info and footage about the game below.

Quest for Lubok - A constantly updated text adventure entirely written in Basic by Remington Gore!

Something slightly different for today's retro heads up instead of all the eye candy retro games we've featured over the last couple of weeks. As we've just been contacted by Remington Gore via Twitter, that if you head on over to his website below, you can download the latest version of the open source text adventure of Quest for Lubok. A game that is being created by a hobbyist who rediscovered his love of programming, rewriting an old text adventure he wrote in Qbasic 4.5. 

Troll's Treasure - A family friendly Adventure game by Michał "stRing" Radecki-Mikulicz as a 1st place winner at Silly Venture

We've mentioned a number of text entry based adventure games over the years, from games such as Venganza and Spooky Adventure, to Knight Orc and Masquerade. But now another game has appeared which will appeal to gamers who have children, is michomis 1st place winner at Silly Venture 2021 called Troll's Treasure; A game which the creator made with his/her children developed using Atari Basic and compiled for the Atari XL/XE.

Something slightly different for today's retro heads up instead of all the big hit specials we've featured over the last couple of weeks. As we've just been contacted by XeNoMoRPH, that as from today, you can download the latest game Amstrad CPC release of ART WAR developed by Amstrad Sakis. To coincide with this news, the creator has released a new video showing the gameplay of this simple text adventure game whereby you have to make the correct choices in order to finish the game.

Kayleth - A brilliant text adventure game makes its way over to the Plus/4

A great piece of news has just hit our inbox, as if you're looking for a new text adventure game to play, and a good one at that! Then thanks to a heads up via idpixel.ru we've just learnt that you can now download the Commodore Plus/4 conversion of the highly rated C64 and ZX Spectrum game 'Kayleth'; an epic sci-fi adventure with cyberpunk elements from the mind of Stefan F. Ufnowski (who also coded Rebel Planet). 

Text Adventure Literacy Jam - Create a TEXT ADVENTURE game suitable for children with no prior experience

Something slightly different for today's retro heads up, as we've just been contacted through Twitter, that as from February 25th, there will be the launch of the Text Adventure Literacy Jam; a brand new creation contest to develop an old-school text adventure game that is suitable for Children with no prior experience. A Jam that encourages text adventure authors to write a fun game such that can guide children (age 8+) so they can play unassisted, or that younger children can play with a parent or trusted adult.

TREASURE HUNT JAM - (illustrated) text adventure game creation jam

Something slightly different for this end of the week retro heads up, as we've been contacted by Chris Ainsley that as from February 6th, he will launch the TREASURE HUNT JAM; a brand new creation contest to develop an old-school treasure hunt text adventure game with no graphics and minimal text, all judged by an all-star judging panel such as Scott Adams, Tim Gilberts, John Wilson, Mark Hardisty, Stefan Vogt, Blerkotron and Julia Minamata.

The Path - Illustrated text-based puzzle game also playable in your browser

Another game released by Adventuron this month and no not a simulation, is the Illustrated Text-Based Puzzle game ' The Path '. Yes indeed it's time to put aside the sim and look towards this rather unusual game, as in the The Path you will encounter a series of challenges, containing situations and actions they may be very dangerous in real life.

The Beast Of Torrack Moor - 30th Anniversary Edition - Coming this November!

Throughout the last few years we've featured a number of text based adventures, games such as the upcoming unnamed Pirate themed C64 adventure, The Pawn Remastered, The Marlo Files Remastered Edition, and Goblin Towers to name but a few. But there's another game that's due to be released in November, and that is The Beast Of Torrack Moor - 30th Anniversary Edition; a remastered version of a game released in 1988, by Linda Doughty for the ZX Spectrum

Goblin Towers - Classic 1980s C64 Text Adventure Release

Text Adventures were many of our first forays into video gaming. Similar to the Adventure stories we would get as books each adventure was usually a unique, and fulfilling story combined with puzzles, traps, loot, and enemies. The latest Genesis Project release on csdb is one such classic adventure game: "Goblin Towers" by Supersoft It features the game's cover art, some hints, a map and walkthrough if you get stuck, as well as both 1983 and 1987 versions of the game. 1987s release features a unique font set, bezel graphics, and your score is displayed throughout the game, as well as more detail about each of the game's locations. For a more simplified experience, you can play through the 1983 version, which was written in assembler and retains the default colour pallette of the C64 BASIC screen, but otherwise, plays the same story as the later release.

The Marlo Files Remastered Edition - Text based adventure for the C64

Not to be left out in the cold, the C64 has also seen an adventure release today in the form of a text based adventure developed by 'Binary Legends' using the Quest Writer Adventure Game Maker called 'The Marlo Files - Remastered Edition'.  This remastered edition features a compilation of two text adventures, a new title screen, tweaks, corrections to in-game text, and some changes to some of the puzzles.

Athanor - A new Amstrad CPC (and Oric) graphical adventure game in English!

Some months back we mentioned a new text based adventure titled 'Athanor', developed by Safar Games that was available for 3 or 3,5 inch disk, with a .possible free DSK version later for Amstrad CPC and Oric based systems. Although the game was only in French and featuring a typical 80's style North, South, East command interface, Safar has contacted us today to announce the release of the English version.

DangerMouse - Text Adventure demo latest Amiga release

For many of you as an older gamer, you'd probably remember those cartoon days of Bananaman, SuperTed and yes that excellent DangerMouse. From the early 80's to the mid 90's was a time of some pretty fantastic cartoons and DangerMouse was certainly one of them. With a parody of the British Spy fiction such as James Bond but played as a Mouse and his side kick Penfold, you can now relive those days in the latest Amiga demo release of "DangerMouse: Text Adventure" from AmigaPD.

Athanor - A new Amstrad CPC (and Oric) graphical adventure game!

The other day one of our staff members commented that there was a lack of Amstrad CPC titles for us to write about, and yet here we are with a new text adventure game for the Amstrad CPC and Oric systems. Athanor, developed by Eric Safar in partnership with Gamopat is a text based adventure with graphics that is available for 3 or 3,5 inch disk, with a .DSK version free later. Considering this is a text based adventure title, they were very popular in the early 80's and featured many of the early commands such as Go North, South, Eat and Take Item.

Aurum for C64 (Unreleased text adventure from 1987, now with English translation)

Back in the 1980's, Dutch developer John Vanderaart (aka DRJ, also known as Doctor John) programmed games for the Commodore 64, Sinclair ZX Spectrum and MSX computers, with his most famous games being text adventures.
