Rick Dangerous - A platforming classic as a remastered edition for the Amiga 1200/CD32!

If you remember playing the late 80's game of 'Rick Dangerous'; a very challenging platformer that made you feel like an Indiana Jones character traversing dangerous locations such as caves and temples while avoiding the bad guys and deadly boulders and spiked traps, then you might like this latest news story sent to us by Per Ola Eriksson. As he was kind enough to inform us earlier today, that the graphically overhauled version of Rick Dangerous by The Z-Team, has just been updated with a kick ass release for 2023!

Rick Dangerous was originally developed by Core Design and published by Firebird in 1989 and this latest version which is a backport of the wii looks to be another fantastic version of Rick Dangerous by Z-Team. As not only does it feature a brand new title screen ( 2018 Original illustration by Simon Phipps), but all the graphics were remastered by Domkid (from Wii Version), and finally it was created using Earok's amazing Scorpion Engine (Domkid, Troudki). So yes if you loved this game back in the day, now's your chance to play it again but with new graphics 'n more!

  1. From the file names I assume that the current download is a release candidate, so just minor changes and bug fixes to expect. I am relived they changed the sluggish controls from the preview version.

  2. Please remember that everytime you type "back in the day" a kitten dies.

    2. So, who kills a kitten every time this phrase pops up? That must be a really horrible person...

  6. Good work. It will never replace Rick Dangerous but it's beautiful, and pretty cool to play.

  7. A huge disappointment! Rick Dangerous 1 and 2 are some of my favourite games of all time.. and this 'remaster' is a cheap imitation. The visuals look great.. but the speed and movement is completely off. It feels like a amateur flash game from the 1990s.

I don't understand why, in 2023, people still can't make a game as good as one released 30+ years ago.. why use the scorpion engine - why not use the same engine the CORE guys used to make the original Rick Dangerous - is that possible?

    1. The Scorpion engine is more than capable of producing things even way more advanced than Rick Dangerous so why shouldn't it be used? And is the original 'engine' used to make the original RD games even available? Was it shared by the original developer Simon Phipps and in a state that is usable by hobbyists of today?

  8. I hate to be critical, as so much work has gone into the graphics, which really are amazing! However, the game is unplayable. On real CD32 hardware, the blue button is not assigned to bombs but to "jump". There is no way to lay bombs, making some areas impassable. Running via CD32 emulation, bombs can be used via the space bar, though sometimes this does not work. In the original game, after losing a life, bombs and ammunition were re-equipped, but not so here, often leaving you with no ammo. The game is also incredibly easy, until you come to an impassable area due to lack of bombs or ammo, as most of the booby traps have been removed. There are also may bugs, which halt further progression. It is a valiant attempt, but it is not anything like the finished article. Hopefully updates will follow,
