Mel O Dee’s and Crap Box - A musical Bonanza for the Commodore Amiga

Something slightly different for this evenings entertainment, as if you're looking to play some damn fine tunes on your Commodore Amiga, then you might be interested in either checking out Mel O Dee’s by Resistance, or Crap Box 9/10 by The Electronic Knights. Yes indeed its time to turn those speakers right up, as both of these releases feature lots of great tunes and more so from Resistance with its wild demo ranking 2nd place.

Chip Bit Day 2018 - Annual music festival banging away chiptunes 28th April!

Very short notice this one as we've only just come across it in our spam box, but we've recently been told that as from next Saturday 28th April, the annual music festival of 'Chip Bit Day 2018' will be held in Manchester as a dedication to a unique music community & genre know as ‘Chiptune’. If you don't know where Chip Bit Day comes from, they have told us it stems from the blog “Chip Bit Sid” - set up in 2015 - which features weekly reviews about chiptune music and artists. The blog had hit one year on the scene in 2016 and a celebratory event was in order: Chip Bit Day was born and the rest is history.

The Commodore Story - New trailer released!

Back in April last year, Wavem studios successfully ended their kickstarter campaign to fund "The Commodore Story", smashing their target of £17,500 by nearly triple. An ambitious project to chart the rise and fall of Commodore in book, documentary film and chiptune CD form, looks to be a worthy addition to tell the story of Commodore. Thankfully while we wait we've already had a promised video diary of clips of interviews that will go into the final film. Now with a final edit that has taken place with preview screenings, we welcome the official trailer that has been released in preparation of the final release. And it's a cracker...

It's cold outside, the sun has gone down and there's not much on TV. So what better way to spend this evening than turning those speakers up for the latest Amstrad and ZX Spectrum Chiptune album by McKlain, the ' Basic 1.1 - Ready. A Chiptune Compilation. Created by the same musical genius who was behind a number of tunes such as those heard in other Amstrad CPC productions including Breaking Baud and Megablasters, this time has done an album that is feature packed for all.

BEEB TRACKER VOLUME 1 - 26 Battle of the Bits VGM music files, ported to the BBC Micro!

Checking our twitter feeds today we recently had a heads up from our good friend @VizionGamer of a new release on the BBC Micro which features a rather unique list of tunes. Released by Bitshifters and called the 'BEEB TRACKER VOLUME 1' you'll be able to experience the 26 ‘Battle of the Bits’ VGM music files, that have been ported over to the BBC Micro system. In fact although these music files are short, some of them sound absolutely fantastic.

Chiperia Issue #5 - More speaker banging tunes from The Chiperia Project (Amiga).

This week Indie Retro News will be announcing an Amiga exclusive that is sure to be a big hit throughout the Amiga community, but until that time comes, here is another fine Amiga release, 'Chiperia Issue #5 by The Chiperia Project'. Now if you remember our article from last year (link) we featured Chiperia Issue 4, which was a top quality Amiga music disk that had a number of class tunes! This latest release is again an Amiga music disk and again features even more tunes that show off just how good the Amiga can sound!

Moving away from the games and back to the music, as ' The Chiperia Project ' last month came second at the Compusphere 2015 with their fantastic chiptune album of the ' Chiperia Issue #4 ', which has a number of seriously cool tunes such as Mr.MYGG - Back to Double Zero and Wiklund - Gyroscope. Each one available to listen to via the youtube link below, or you can download the entire album as an ADF file, playable on a real Amiga. Furthermore the previous albums 1 - 3 are also available. So if one album isn't enough, you can have all four!!

Nil-Ninjahtic: Ronin - 8-bit style platformer released and looking for greenlight votes

Blaze Epic have released their third instalment in the ninjahtic series of tricky 8-bit stlye platformers, each of which is a well crafted pixel adventure platformer with the hallmark of challenging gameplay and pixel perfect jumping puzzles. The game is available on itch.io now but Blaze Epic is also looking for steam greenlight votes as well to bing in line with the rest of the series

Amiga and C64 tunes - These are just too good!

Many months ago, perhaps even last year, we used to feature retro gaming music pretty much every weekend, but after some consideration we decided to step back from that and just feature game news. But after talking to our good friend Aaron for more C64-Amiga tunes, we came across a playlist that I haven't stopped listening to all evening. It is a playlist by Video Game Music Vault that features some of the best remixes and tunes I've heard all year. In fact, he doesn't just have Amiga remixes, but Amiga tributes, C64 remixes, C64 tributes and Keygens. These are so good in fact, I recommend you take the weekend off just to listen to them!

Pico-8 : An 8 bit fantasy console from the makers of Voxatron (IRN Cracktro special!)

For the last couple of weeks I've been playing around with a "fantasy console" from makers of voxatron, lexaloffle. This review was supposed to be a quick report of a cool looking toy I found for making retro style games and prototypes or game jam entries. It started with an innocent posting that made it to the front page of Hacker News, and a quick glance indicated it would be suitable fodder for Indie Retro News. A quick round up of what was going on with some screenshots. Yeah, I'd have this wrapped up in a day. What I didn't expect was what I discovered...

Fruit'Y - Puzzling Gem'X inspired comes to the Dreamcast!

Another awesome find today by Retro Video Gamer is the release of a gorgeous looking arcade puzzle game for the Dreamcast called ' Fruit'Y '. Published by Retroguru and taking us completely by surprise as a free game with a physical Dreamcast version available on the DragonBox Shop. Fruit'Y is heavily inspired by the Kaiko classic Gem'X, which was available on the Commodore Amiga, C64 and Atari ST, but adds plenty of fruit, hand set pixels, Amiga chiptunes, score tracking, 120 levels and much more!

Ladies and Gentlemen SuTeKH/Epyteor is back with another fantastic chiptune conversion! The same creator behind the top quality album such a 'Now that's what I call chiptunes' has now just released ' 9 Lives ' for the Amstrad CPC, which is another conversion but this time from the Amiga. Originally released by Atari Corp. (UK) Ltd, with graphics by Simon Butler and Music by Martin Walker sounds absolutely fantastic on the Amstrad and well worth downloading the latest Amstrad CPC emulator of JavaCPC to load the disk!

Some would say I get over excited some times at the smallest amount of news releases, however when it comes to the 'Dutch Moonsound Veteran' release for the MSX, being blown away is an understatement.
