MSXdev'17 - The MSX Competition results are in and the winners are...

Once again it's time to give a shout out to the MSXdev’17 competition as we've recently found out, not only are there a lot of awesome games to play, but the competition is officially over with winners announced! Yes indeed after all this time featuring every game in the competition, we are pleased to say that XSpelunker won in the MSX Classic category, ΧΙ∧∃Χ (Zevimodoki) in the MSX Freestyle category, and XSpelunker and Draconic Throne share the MSX Community Prize!

Magical Tower Adventure - MSX port from a ZX Spectrum dungeon crawler!

Once again it's time to give a shout out to the MSXdev’17 competition as once more a new entry has appeared and this one is entry number 9 as 'Magical Tower Adventure', coded by Timmy. Now if you have heard of this game before that's probably because it was also coded by the same person and appeared on the ZX Spectrum as a homebrew in 2016. This latest release is an MSX port of the ZX Spectrum dungeon crawler but with a lot of the code rewritten for all to enjoy!

Draconic Throne - Be a dragon and defeat the prince in the 8th MSXdev’17 entry

Even more games are appearing for the MSXdev’17 competition and rather than the platforming antics of XSpelunker, this time you are playing as a mighty fire breathing dragon in the 8th MSXdev’17 entry ' Draconic Throne ' by GW’s Workshop. No you are not riding a dragon like Daenerys or rescuing princesses such as in Thanatos, but in this game with a hint of both you are out to burn all of your enemies alive in order to defeat the prince that awaits at the end of each level!

XSpelunker - Spelunky inspired MSXdev'17 entry is rather nice indeed

We've put aside the Amstrad, the ZX Spectrum and even the NES as now it is time to mention a fabulous 7th entry for the MSXdev'17, it's ' XSpelunker ' developed by Santiago Ontañón (Brain Games). If you love the arcade exploration platformer of Spelunky, then you are in for a treat with this latest entry, as not only does it feature procedurally generated levels, but there's items to collect, platforms to jump across, vines to climb, and even nasty scorpions and piranhas that need to be either avoided or blown up or stabbed.

RMD - Vertical shooter freely available for the MSX!

A nice update from MSX.org as Naoki has released the vertical shooter RMD for the MSX. Coming from the same creator behind such games as Gold Fan, Bee and Slime Center via MSXDev 17, this one puts you in control of a space ship that has to destroy oncoming enemies and land based objects, while also avoiding being blown up by bullets coming at you from all directions!
