How about a Zelda style 2D RPG with high quality 16-bit-era visual style graphics? Ok then, here's Anodyne, in which you explore and fight your way through nature, urban and abstract themed areas in the human Young's subconscious. You'll be fighting above ground and below it, especially in the monster filled dungeons.
Currently available on Desura (Windows/Mac/Linux) for only £5.59 during a deal, this game has a very high rating, so you won't be dissapointed. There is also a demo available, in case you have second thoughts.
