Goldrake - C64 Shoot em up based on a 1970's anime/cartoon
The C64 scene hasn't finished with us yet, as moments ago we were contacted by Saberman, that the C64 game based on the 1970's Manga UFO Robo Grendizer called ' Goldrake ', has recently been released by The Hokuto Force. This game classed as a shoot em up and developed using SEUCK, is inspired by a classic cartoon and features graphics and music by VG VOX.
Mazinger Z Preview - C64 game based on 1970's Manga Anime of Go Nagai
The C64 scene hasn't finished with us yet, as moments ago we were contacted by @Errazking, that the C64 game based on the 1970's Manga Anime of Go Nagai called ' Mazinger Z (Preview) ', has recently been released. This rather eye opening Arcade preview with music and sfx from Gryzor87, bitmaps from Martina NT, graphics from Errazking and programming and design by Carlos Zubieta. Puts you in the role of Koji Kabuto, the pilot of 70's classic anime super-robot Mazinger Z in his quest to save Japan from the mechanical monsters created by evil scientist Doctor Hell.
Animetic Story Game 1: Cardcaptor Sakura - A Fully Playable English Translated Release!
Bit of a late one this and one we had to give a shout out to, is PsionBolt and NoOneee's fully playable English translated release of the PlayStation game Animetic Story Game 1: Cardcaptor Sakura. Mentioned earlier today by our good friend @VizionGamer. This game was released in Japan by Arika in 1999 for the Playstation 1, it featured beautiful 2D graphics, full voice acting, animated cutscenes from the TV show, and actually retells the story of the first season of the popular Anime that many people are still a fan of to this day. As RomHacking puts it "this game recreates the world of Cardcaptor Sakura more accurately than any other CCS game before or since (and there have been quite a few other attempts)!"
Time Gal - LaserDisc Anime gets a special Amiga release by ReImagine Games!
It's a Friday and it's time to get ready for the weekend, but if going out and getting drunk isn't your thing, how about playing the latest Amiga release from our good friends ReImagine Games 'Time Gal'. Now if you've followed our news throughout last year you would've read that LaserDisc support was added to the Amiga emulator WinUAE, as generally LaserDisc games were played via an Arcade cabinet using Amiga 500 hardware, along with a genlock and a laserdisc player. And so it's with great pleasure to announce Taito's 1985 LaserDisc game Time Gal, which has been ported over to the Amiga CD32 and Amiga HDD with upcoming cover by Steve.
Hagane no Renkinjutsushi : Meisou no Rinbukyoku aka Full Metal Alchemist - Gets a GBA English translation
Even though I'm in my 30's now, I still love watching Anime, more especially the ones with a great story and enough power to destroy the world itself! So it stands to reason why I was a huge fan of the Japanese Animation ' Full Metal Alchemist ', which Hagane no Renkinjutsushi : Meisou no Rinbukyoku on the GBA is based on. Sadly however, unlike the Animation which was able to be watched worldwide, the GBA version was only ever released in Japan and wasn't in English, at least until now.
Game Master : R-TYPE - The hit retro shoot em up as an anime, damn is it good!
In 1987 Irem produced one of the greatest shoot em ups of our time, a shoot em up that even today is regarded as one of the best. That shoot em up was none other than R-Type! It featured many waves of enemies some of them extremely deadly, a beam weapon, power ups, great level detail (that almost feels alive), big menacing bosses and a fantastic soundtrack that you will listen to again and again. As such I myself have spent many hours playing this game, more so on the Amiga than the Amstrad. But never would I believe, that this year, thanks to a heads up by Retrotaku, and a production by Otaking77077 (Paul Johnson), there is a short but incredible anime version, which you can watch today!
Skyrim Anime Overhaul - Large overhaul mod of Skyrim into an Anime style
I wont tell a lie, I really do like watching Anime at the end a weekend. Usually I'll either be watching Dragon Ball Super, or something with a little more action and more gore. Cute and cuddly, just isn't my type of Anime. So what if you could turn the AAA game of Skyrim, into an Anime like style, well Vendayn has done just that with his mod release of the ' Skyrim Anime Overhaul '.
TRAF - Trajes Fatais - 2D costume fighter needs your Greenlight votes
Now I'm sure many of you have heard the term ' Cosplay ' in which people dress up in costumes looking as close as possible to the characters they portray. But imagine putting these costumes on and gaining actual powers, a sort of X-Men effect without the mutation. Well if you take a look at the 2D Fighting experience of ' TRAF - Trajes Fatais ' by Onanim Studio that is currently going through a Steam Greenlight campaign, you'll not only have powers as a guest in a costume party, but you'll also be able to kick ass with many different moves.
Demon Child Zenki Battle Raiden - SNES platformer is now fully translated!
We have just been given the heads up by our friends Retrotaku, that you can now download and play the fully translated English release of the SNES game ' Demon Child Zenki - Battle Raiden '. Originally a very early Manga from the 90's that then became a SNES action platformer, you play as Zenki a powerful demon, revived from along sleep by the re-appearance of evil. Sadly you have been turned into a human with his powers kept under control and only chiaki having the power to change him back. As is the case with Anime/Manga based games it's probably best you read the full story as even this game went almost right over my head!
Super Galaxy Squadron - Fast paced Shoot 'em up now on Steam
A Kickstarter and Steam Greenlight success, "Super Galaxy Squadron" by Psyche Studios Games is a fast paced shoot 'em up with plenty of fire power that's now available to buy on Steam. According to the developers Super Galaxy Squadron takes it's inspirations from awesome classics such as Raiden and anime's like Gundam while mixing it with an old-school formula that's more forgiving and unpredictable (but not unfair) elements. - Thanks DSO for the heads up
Raining Blobs - Arcade madness with an anime vibe available for PC!
Are you ready for what I consider the coolest looking arcade multiplayer puzzle game this side of January? Then come and take a look at Raining Blobs; a super addictive, challenging, falling blobs, hardcore puzzle game that's both single player and up to 6 player for PC! What really caught my attention is it having an anime vibe, a touch of Puzzle Bobble with included great pixel art, chippy soundtrack and full controller support.
Cube and Me - Dungeoneering with your tamagotchi Kickstarter final days
Back in the mid '90s tamagotchi's were all the rage. Hardly anyone had mobile phones, and mobile gaming stagnation meant lugging around a brick sized device, plus a backpack of game cartridges and a years supply of AA batteries... But the tamagotchi was literally keychain sized, had a small display and a couple of soft buttons and was the first mainstream pet simulator. you literally could not move in 1996 for someone saying "hang on I have feed my virtual pet..." as it yelped at them like some demented toddler. Cube and Me by Yui Jegnan is trying to fuse that with dungeoneering and roguelike elements for a very cute Anime-style kickstarter.
Stardust Vanguards - Mech dueling for Steam Greenlight
A new game in the making! "Shiness", with a Kickstarter & Steam Greenlight campaign
A new RPG with a manga flavor is in development and comes with a Steam Greenlight campaign as well as a kickstarter funding goal of $100,000, a game called "Shiness" by Ynnis Interactive. This game shows off colorful cartoony graphics and a varied selection of characters in very natural looking environments. But that's not all....
