Throughout this month we've tried our best to give you the latest in top quality game news. Games such as Dread for the Amiga being the highlight with over 63 thousand views beating our all time record! Well here we are with another game that is sure to be a bit of an eye opener especially in the MSX scene, and it's 'Xelden Ring' by Brain Games for the MSX 1. A work in progress action adventure RPG, that is fully 3D rendered with unique features that can be seen being played in the latest footage provided below by Saberman.
Phenix Corrupta - Action adventure game for the MSX released by Casper Croes
The MSX developer entries just keep on coming, as after previously announcing the family friendly game of Snake and Rhino in the Sketchbook for the MSXDev'23 competition, along comes the 27th entry as a horror-themed action adventure game called 'Phenix Corrupta' by Casper Croes. A game in which you must lead a lady through tough times in hell, and cross the river Styx to get out. To coincide with this news, as ever Saberman has done a video showing the game being played.
Snake and Rhino in the Sketchbook - A family friendly game for the MSX by ARC8
Another heads up for our Indie Retro News readers, as we've recently been told by Saberman, that if you head on over to the MSXdev'23 competition page linked below, you can download the latest 1 to 2 player game of Snake and Rhino in the Sketchbook for the MSX. A game that's described as a colorful puzzler full of situations to solve which will challenge your brain as well as offering hours of family fun. To coincide with this news, Saberman has done a video showing the game being played.
Crawlers - A revamped version of the classic Snake game for up to 8 players for the MSX
After all these MSX and MSX 2 games we've been mentioning, you'd think we'd be having a break but not so! As we've recently found out by trawling the latest msxdev competition page, that Pixel Phenix has released the arcade party game of 'Crawlers': A game in which the website describes as a revamped version of the classic Snake game, allowing 8 party members to join-in. To coincide with this news, Saberman has done a short play through of this crazy yet enjoyable game for the MSX.
The Goblin - A fabulous ZX Spectrum platformer with an upbeat soundtrack arrives on the MSX!
Great news MSX owners, as if you're looking to play a very enjoyable game on your home computer, then we have recently been contacted by a good friend of ours through Facebook, that as of today you can play 'The Goblin' by Hicks & Mananuk: A game about a Goblin that must clear areas of enemies by drinking beer and belching on them! Now if you remember this game from last year, that's because it was released for the ZX Spectrum by Hicks, and is still regarded as a fabulous speccy game with an upbeat soundtrack.
Last Escape - A new Point-and-click adventure by Fred Rique via MSXdev23
After our previous announcement of Hopper Boy for the MSXdev'23 competition, the twenty first entry has now been finished and ready for both MSX owners and BlueMSX users to download and play. Unlike the previous game however, ' Last Escape ' by Fred Rique is a point-and-click adventure in which you must save yourself in a sequel to a classic MSX1 adventure called Mine Command. A game that can be seen being played in this latest video provided by Saberman.
Attack of the Petscii Robots - An Action Adventure game originally by The 8bit Guy arrives on the MSX by Robosoft!
Another great news story for you all, as if you followed our previous write up in regards to Attack of the Petscii Robots; A game which was originally developed by David Murray, with a later port for the Commodore Amiga by Vesa Halttunen. Then you'll be pleased to learn that as of today, you can now try out the MSX version! A new version of the game by Robosoft, which was released some time back for the Atari XL/XE, Atari, Apple II, C64, C128, Plus/4, and VIC 20 by David Murray aka The 8bit Guy.
Hopper Boy - 17th entry in the MSXdev competition by Gamecast Entertainment
Something slightly different for your afternoon entertainment, as we have recently been contacted through Facebook, to tell you that if you love playing games inspired by Game and Watch titles, then it might be worth checking out this new game by Gamecast Entertainment called 'Hopper Boy'. As in the words of MSXDev, "The arcade game Hopper Boy takes you back to the times of Nintendo’s Game & Watch series. In Hopper Boy you traverse the floors of a bank to collect diamonds, in order to break the high-score. Simple, clean, and fun".
Vampire Slayer - An Action/Arcade game by Seamsoft entered into the MSXdev23 compo!
Another retro gaming news story to keep you company, as thanks to Tom contacting us early this morning, we've been told that a brand new game for the MSX1 called 'Vampire Slayer', is available to download and play. This game developed by Seamsoft for the MSXDev 23 competition, is an action arcade game in which playing as Ivan Belmont, you must kill the undead using The Vampire Slayer – a legendary crossbow. To coincide with this news, Saberman will hopefully be doing a video later, and the game can be played online.
Defuse - A hectic maze game for the MSX entered into the MSXdev23 compo!
The retro games just keep on coming! As thanks to another heads up earlier today from our good friend Saberman, he has told us that Gamecast Entertainment has entered a brand new game into the MSXdev23 competition called ' Defuse '; a hectic maze game which is available to play online or to download and play on a real MSX system! To coincide with this news, Saberman has also done a video showing the game being played.
Mad House - A new MSX2 Platformer by Gamecast Entertainment via MSXdev23!
Another MSX news story to keep you company, as thanks to Tom contacting us this morning, we've been told that a brand new game for the MSX2 called 'Mad House', has been made available to download and play. This game developed by Gamecast Entertainment for the MSXDev 23 competition, is an arcade platformer in which you play as a nasty thief and must set out to rob a house! In light of this news, the file hunter was also kind enough to make the game completely playable in your browser!
Pearl Rain - Seek immense wealth and divine knowledge in this new MSX game by Patrik’s Retro Tech
Something slightly different for your evening entertainment, as we have recently been contacted through Facebook, to tell you that if you love playing puzzle games, then it might be worth checking out this new game by Patrik’s Retro Tech called 'Pearl Rain'. As in the words of MSXDev, "It’s raining pearls, hallelujah! Patrik’s Retro Tech surprises us with a colorful puzzle game in which you are to shove pearls around, and also blow up some walls here and there..Even disco balls are involved!". In light of this news, Saberman was kind enough to do another retro gaming video!
Uchu Yohei - A graphically unique MSX game has been entered into the MSXdev23 competition!
I may not have an MSX but there are certain games that have appeared over the years in the homebrew scene, that have really opened my eyes to just how good the system is. One such game that caught my eye that looks well worth a play is FranChesstein latest MSXDev23 entry game of 'Uchu Yohei'. A new MSX 1 game whereby playing as the protagonist, you must clear out the just inhabited planet of mysterious nuclear spheres that have a controlling feature on natural wildlife.
Tower of Damnation - A challenging platformer for the MSX released by Marcelo “”BigFive”” Correia
We've just been contacted through both Facebook and Twitter that if you head on over to the latest MSXDev competition, you can download or play online the MSX game of 'Tower of Damnation'. A very challenging platformer game by Marcelo “”BigFive”” Correia, in which you have to traverse the many levels rescuing hostages that have been taken by a group of criminals. In light of this news, Saberman has done yet another video showing the game in action.
