Soul Trapped - An MSX2 adventure game featuring MSX-Music and mouse support!
The MSXdev scene is no stranger to variety, but this year’s competition is reaching new extremes. While some developers are pushing the limits of tiny 16KB ROMs, the duo of Casper Croes & Pixel Phenix has swung for the fences with Soul Trapped, an MSX2 adventure housed in a massive 14MB NEO ROM. In fact this is so unusual for the competition it also features MSX-Music and mouse support, with a helpful manual that should help you get started… hopefully.
Neon Horizon - A new racer for the MSX2 as the 40th entry in the MSXDEV25 competition
In a record-breaking year for the retro community, developers Norakomi and Wolf have entered a fantastic looking game in the MSX dev competition. Titled as 'Neon Horizon'. This high-octane 3D scrolling racer has just been registered as the landmark 40th entry in the MSXdev25 contest, setting a new standard for the long-running homebrew competition. Set against a sprawling cyber-noir backdrop, Neon Horizon casts players as a lone rider in a race for survival. The game draws heavy mechanical inspiration from classic 3D racers, tasking players with navigating treacherous futuristic landscapes.
Super Sokoban - A new MSX2 game as a 40th birthday celebration of the MSX puzzler Sokoban!
A new MSX 2 news story has hit our inbox, as we've just been informed through Facebook, that 2NICE has released a very polished Sokoban incarnation, to celebrate the 40th birthday of the original MSX game called 'Super Sokoban'.A game that requires a lot of skill and patience as you have to move boxes around in a maze in a specific way, to complete the level. To coincide with this news, we've got some new footage of this rather nice Sokoban game!
Sam.Pr Explorer - Explore ancient Egypt in this new MSX 2 game via the MSXdev'24 compo!
Even more games are appearing for the MSXdev’24 competition and rather than the platforming antics of The drop of Abu-Cymbel or Sorcerer Kid Adventure, this time you play as Sam.PR on an adventure within the Pyramids of Egypt. The only problem is, he's found himself trapped inside one of those pyramids and you must find a way out. In light of this new retro gaming news, Saberman has provided a short gameplay video below.

There's been a lot of Puzzle games featured lately, from Catbox for the MSX 1, to Ami Robbo 2 for the Commodore Amiga. Tiny Magic - A high quality and charming puzzle game for the MSX 2 now taking pre-orders via Côté Gamers
The MSX community are certainly no strangers to quality releases on the MSX especially with great games such as Lilly's Saga and Ghostly Manor. Well today's news is certainly worth a shout out if you have a MSX 2, as we've recently found out through Twitter, that pre-orders are now open for the high quality puzzle game of 'Tiny Magic' by Abyss. A game in which you play as Thiharis on a quest to hopefully become the new master water mage. In light of this news, the team behind the game have provided a trailer that as always can be viewed below.
Eggy’s Maze - A great MSX2 puzzle game entered into the MSXdev23 competition
We've just been contacted through both Facebook and Twitter that if you head on over to the latest MSXDev competition, you can download or play online the MSX 2 game of 'Eggy's Maze'. A game that isn't just very challenging, but it's a puzzle game by Jacco Bikker in which you have to traverse the many levels to find missing eggs scattered throughout! To coincide with this news, as ever Saberman has done a short video showing the game in action.
A Collection of Four Adventure Games - Play the latest MSX/2 games entered into the Yandex Retro Games Battle!
Even more awesome retro game news to get through, as thanks to another heads up earlier today from our good friend Tom, he has told us that Andrey Rodionov has entered into the Yandex Retro Games Battle competition 'A Collection of Four Adventure Games' for the MSX/2. Basically different games such as a space adventure game with some arcade elements or a maze adventure all belonging to the roguelike genre. To coincide with this news story, Oleg Sen!n and Saberman have done a 15min+ video of all the MSX/2 games being played!
Mad House - A new MSX2 Platformer by Gamecast Entertainment via MSXdev23!
Another MSX news story to keep you company, as thanks to Tom contacting us this morning, we've been told that a brand new game for the MSX2 called 'Mad House', has been made available to download and play. This game developed by Gamecast Entertainment for the MSXDev 23 competition, is an arcade platformer in which you play as a nasty thief and must set out to rob a house! In light of this news, the file hunter was also kind enough to make the game completely playable in your browser!
S.A.K - Check out this cool Green Beret Homage for the MSX2
Green Beret(Rush n Attack) was an action arcade game released by Konami in 1985. It is remembered for its Cold War setting and its reliance on the player using a knife or even a flame thrower to dispatch enemies. Well if you liked this game at the Arcades or any of the 8bit versions we've featured previously, then it might be worth checking out this game that's just been sent to us called 'S.A.K'. As in the words of @vidaextraretro "compressed versions for disk of the worthy homage to Green Beret by Konami, Stan the Dreamer and others for the MSX2."
Lilly's Saga - MSXdev22 Winner for Gameplay, Graphics and Sound is getting a big box edition! (Reserves are open)
It feels like it was only just yesterday that we announced the release of the incredible MSX 2 game of 'Lilly's Saga' by Fabulous 8bit. A game that didn't just become a highlight of the MSX 2 community, but also as a winner for Gameplay, Graphics and Sound in the MSXdev'22 competition. Well have we got some great news for you! As although the game is still available to download and enjoy, from what we've just been told through Facebook, the game is also going to be getting a BIG BOX edition....Oh and you can reserve your copy right now!
Stevedore - A charming Arcade Puzzler released for the MSX by TheNestruo and Wonder
We turn our attention away from the ZX Spectrum for this next news update, as if you're looking for a high quality MSX game to keep you company possibly right up to Christmas, then it might be worth checking out TheNestruo and Wonders latest Arcade Puzzle title for the MSX called 'Stevedore': a high quality game in which you need to avoid enemies, while moving blocks to reach difficult areas to collect keys that open the exit for you to escape.
Ghostly Manor - A charming little Arcade game released for the MSX2+ by 9958 Crew
Another heads up for our Indie Retro News readers, as we've recently been told by Liqmatrix that if you head on over to the itch io page linked below, you can download the latest game of Ghostly Manor by 9958 Crew for the MSX2+. A game in which you need to collect keys in each of the many levels to open the door to escape. In light of this news, Saberman has also done a video of the gameplay viewable below.

Unless you were living in a cave, many of you will remember the classic game that is ' Super Mario Bros ', a game that was produced by Shigeru Miyamoto and released by that famous company Nintendo in the late 80's for the NES. It is an incredible platformer that has had many sequels and spin offs on different systems, ranging from the NES all the way up to my personal favorite the DS. Well if you too are a fan of Mario but are looking for something fresh on the MSX2, you'll be interested to know that as of right now you can play Fabulous 8bit's love letter to Super Mario Bros called "Lilly’s Saga – The Stones of Evergreen"; The 31st entry into the MSXdev22 competition.

Well today's news is equally special for the MSX community, as we've recently found out through Facebook, that you can now play Mystery Labs awesome action puzzle game of 'The Fall of Prometheus' online; A game which has over 30 screens divided in 3 worlds: Tanatos, Garden of Hesperides, and another secret one set in a mythological theme.
Who Dares Wins - Retro classic gets an MSX2 remake
Way back in 1985 Alligator Software was supposed to officially release 'Who Dares Wins' for the C64, but according to certain sites this game played very closely to Commando and thus was stopped by Elite (even though apparently some did get their hands on it). But the news of today isn't for the C64, as we've recently been told by @nenefranz, that the Who Dares Wins remake for the MSX2 by Retroforce had been released and can still be downloaded for free!
