PLAY Expo Margate 2016 - A great indie and retro gaming experience is upon us 23rd-24th July!

Here are Indie Retro News, we are a huge fan of retro gaming conventions, especially ones that are full to the brim with retro games and hardware mixed up with a little bit of indie. There is nothing more satisfying than seeing a mass of old computers lined up, bleeping and bopping away just ready to be played by people of all ages. But if old computers are not your cup of tea (why?!?!) then come and experience true VR, play some of the best Arcades, get ready to make something new in Minecraft or check out the latest modern games... It's all here at ' PLAY Expo Margate ' this weekend 23rd - 24th July 2016.

Tickets are still available to buy from the main website

Ghost Theory - A very paranormal experience gets a second attempt Kickstarter

At the beginning of this year we announced the rather scary looking paranormal game ' Ghost Theory ', which was aiming for a Kickstarter success. Well that didn't happen, so now the developers are trying again but this time with more spookiness for a wider variety of system platforms. Developed by Dreadlocks, creators of DEX, ' Ghost Theory ' is a single player game for PC, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in which you need to investigate real haunted places!

The Works of Mercy - Be a Killer in this gory Kickstarter success

Whenever a game is announced by PlayWay, especially as a Kickstarter, it always ends up as a success, this was true for Hard West, The Way and now with 4 days to go, it is the same for ' The Works of Mercy '. Now putting aside the more softly approach with those games, the developer Pentacle supported by the publishers PlayWay, has gone all out with this one, as it is a psychological thriller inspired by the classics of the genre: Roman Polanski’s “Repulsion,” “The Tenant” and Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining.” Which means yes you guessed it, BLOODY HORROR! Not just any horror either as the games plot revolves around mysterious killings committed on seemingly random victims. Only this time it is the player who becomes the murderer!

Ghost Theory - A very paranormal experience reaches out for VR

Finally after all these years I've come across a game that's currently going through a Kickstarter campaign that really appealed to my paranormal senses. As someone who is a paranormal investigator and has visited many places that would scare even the most hardy of man, I was taken back by surprise to hear from Dreadlocks, creators of DEX, about their new game ' Ghost Theory ', which gives you the best experience possible to investigate haunted locations in a ghost hunting adventure designed for VR!

Five years in the making and unlike any first person parkour game you've played, Lemma features the ability to create structures through parkour moves. Surfaces pop in and out of existence at will and you can modify the environment in Lemma through several different systems that work together.

Good news for the latest Kickstarter Dungeon Crawling game "Crystal Rift", as it's now a Kickstarter success. With a blended mix of Dungeon Master and Eye of the Beholder but with a more puzzle grid based experience, the developers have gathered over £4,331 in pledge goal funding. Developed mainly for VR such as the Oculus Rift and GearVR, but with other system support provided, you'll be exploring dark and scary dungeons, while solving puzzles and avoiding nasty traps. The player also slowly uncovers the narrative and story through exploration, discovering dark secrets and following the path of those who have come before.

Radial-G - Oculus Rift Racer Gets Steam Early Access

Back in July, we featured the spectacular upcoming Oculus Rift title called Radial-G: Racing Revolved as they set up their kickstarter campaign and despite a fantastic effort, it didn't quite reach its £50k goal. Undeterred by this setback, the team at Tameka games were able to receive additional funding and have continued with development and have just announced that the Game will soon be available on Steam.

Crystal Rift - Dungeon crawling horror challenge - Steam Greenlight

If you blended Dungeon Master and Eye of the Beholder into a puzzle based horror game, you'd probably end up with Crystal Rift, which is the latest Dungeon Crawling experience to get a Steam Greenlight campaign. Developed mainly for VR such as the Oculus Rift and GearVR, but with other system support provided, you'll be exploring dark and scary dungeons, while solving puzzles and avoiding nasty traps.

The Hum - VR Alien Abduction launches kickstarter campaign

Several years back, when X-Files was a current TV franchise, everyone and their dog seemed to be doing alien abduction stories and games but it's a genre that definitely hasn't seen as much love as it once did. However Ariel Arias of Thotwise Games wants to change all that with an ambitious Kickstarter campaign to realize his dream passion project of an alien invasion horror adventure with support for immersive VR technologies such as Oculus rift.

Radial-G - Zero G racer for Oculus Rift from an AAA experienced team and interview!

It seems like everywhere you turn there's a new game touting support for Oculus Rift, the Kickstarter darling of the Virtual Reality renaissance. (I still can't believe it's taken over 20 years for the technology to catch up with the dream promised by the arcade Virtuality cabinets powered by Amiga 3000's to finally be able to deliver the realistic immersive experience we all dreamed about in the '90s). But 5 AAA industry guys have put together a fantastic looking zero-g racer designed with the Rift in mind (though it's also good without one on a regular flatscreen) and are looking to get the final push to completion funded through kickstarter.

South Park VR - See South Park through your own eyes via Oculus Rift

Developed by a small group of superfans at Tool, comes a South Park experience unlike any other, a software release that some would class as the most immersive South Park visual experience yet. Taking inspirations from other renditions of the city of South Park, such as the recent game "Stick of Truth" and the season 17 show intro you'll be able to walk around the area of South Park viewed through your eyes using an Oculus Rift.

Watch as huge space battles commence around you, feel the emotion and power as you place the Oculus Rift on your head and be immersed in the space ship experience.
