Xenomaze - A creepy first person maze game for the ZX Spectrum for Halloween

If you're at home and looking for a scary game that fits right in with Halloween, come and check out Red Zebra's ZX Spectrum game called 'Xenomaze'. A first person maze game, that will have you aiming for the exit as quick as possible, before you become food for the monster that is hunting you down. To coincide with this news, Saberman has provided a video that has already received feedback such as "too scary, I'm not playing". 

FIGHT KNIGHT - A kick ass dungeon crawling brawler coming soon!


A truely fantastic looking game has just appeared in our inbox, as we've been told by a good friend of ours that Team Sorcerobe will be bringing their kick ass brawler of ' FIGHT KNIGHT ' to Steam and perhaps other digital services at some point very soon. If you're looking for a dungeon crawler whereby fists are your primary weapon then look forward to this one as I think you'll agree it looks awesome!

Apocryph - Brutal FPS which looks a bit like Painkiller goes early access!


Something for everyone this week as now we look towards a bloody and brutal first person shooter called ' Apocryph ', developed by Bigzur using Unity. If you remember games such as Hexen, Heretic or Painkiller, then you'll know what to expect with this game, as not only is it set in a dark fantasy world of violence, magic, dark rituals and dangers, but you'll be facing horrific monsters, nasty traps, secret passages and the will to survive with a mighty weapon at your disposal!

Lust for Darkness - kickstarter campaign for occult and fetish: final week!


And now for what is the most ahem... 'interesting' game I've had to cover for Indie Retro News. Lust for Darkness is an upcoming game from the Polish team Play Way. The themes however are definitely on the mature side, being a first person horror adventure with elementh style of occult, and fetish.

Brutal Doom 64 - New bloody trailer for next week's release!


Some time back now SGtMarkIV released the jaw dropping Brutal Doom, which was pretty much the bloodiest Doom mod we've played, with more gibs and guts than you could ever need in the classic Doom. But now SGtMarkIV has not only released a brand new trailer for Brutal Doom 64, the next PC overhaul in his line up from the Nintendo 64, but he has also announced the release date of next week October, 30th!

The Conjuring House - Rym Games is out to scare you on PC and PS4


Rym Games has just launched the latest trailer for their upcoming Unreal 4 horror game ' The Conjuring House ' which is coming to PC and PS4 in 2017. Set in the early 20th century in an old abandoned Victorian style house with a pretty dark past, you play as a journalist covering a paranormal event with a team of mediums and parapsychologists who were sent to unravel the mysteries and myths about the location. But decay, fear and horror is about to unfold as the team go missing, and you will face untold evil and must escape the terrors of the house.

Agony - Madmind Studio teases a visually appealing first person survival horror


Put the kids to bed and get ready for untold horror, as Madmind Studio have just teased their brand new first person survival horror game ' Agony ', which is coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC at some point during 2017. Featuring bloody visuals in the horrific depths of hell, you begin your journey as a tormented soul without any memories of your past, and must explore, and interact with other damned people and possess simple minded demons to find a way to escape, or forever suffer the ultimate torment. To coincide with this news, the team behind this game who have worked on numerous AAA titles such as The Witcher 3 and The Division, have released a video and more screenshots!

Slasher's Keep - A dungeon crawler with interesting features coming to Steam 2016


What do you get if you mix a dungeon crawling experience, with a blend of Dark Messiah Might and Magic and Skyrim? Most likely you'll end up with ' Slasher's Keep ' developed by Damian Schloter that has some rather interesting features. A Steam Greenlight success and due to be released on Steam this year, ' Slasher's Keep ' is a first person dungeon crawler with randomly generated dungeons and various traps that gives you the opportunity to skilfully smack enemies into them via a dynamic melee combat system.

Total Eclipse - 1980's Adventure previewed for the Atari 8bit


Our good friend Alex has just informed us of the work in progress preview of the C64 - Atari 8bit port: Total Eclipse. Originally released in 1988, Total Eclipse is a first person adventure game with the ability to shoot released for the Amiga, Atari ST, Amstrad CPC, Commodore 64, PC and ZX Spectrum, however it was never ported to the Atari 8bit, until now.

Spear of Destiny & Wolfenstein 3D - Amiga v1.21 AGA ports are now available


NovaCoder has really kicked it up a notch in the Amiga scene as another bit of news from our friend Solo Kazuki, is the 1.21 Nova release of both Spear of Destiny and Wolfenstein 3D as Amiga AGA editions. Spear of Destiny originally developed by id Software in 1992 is the prequel to the genre defining first person shooter of id Software's Wolfenstein 3D.  In regard to these Amiga AGA ports, they are based on various SDL version's of Wolfenstein 3D and some bits from DOOM.

I Can't Escape: Darkness - Creepy Dungeon Crawler gets a gameplay trailer


After a very successful Steam Greenlight campaign and scary game teasers, Fancy Fish Games have now announced the latest release date for 'I Can't Escape Darkness'. This is the spiritual successor to the 2013 hit game "I Can't Escape" in which over 250,000 people tried to escape the deadly depths of a horrifying dungeon. To coincide with the news of a PC, Mac and Linux release on September 17th, 2015, the developers have also released a new scary game play trailer teeming with game locales, items, and characters.

Garbage Day - Groundhog Day meets Postal via Steam Greenlight!

Legend of Grimrock II - Dungeon Crawling excellence gets a Mac OS X release and a new patch!


If you are a fan of grid based first person dungeon crawler games such as the classic Eye of the Beholder or the brilliant Dungeon Master, and happen to own a Mac (which is usually a bad combination), you'll be ecstatic to know that Legend of Grimrock 2 is finally available for Mac OS X!

Morningstar: Descent to Deadrock - Phoenix Online Publishing teases a brand new sci-fi adventure!

Narcosis - Oceanic survival horror gets a trailer tease!


Narcosis made it's debut at the Game Developers Conference and certainly impressed the crowd that went. Thus today the developers Honor Code Inc have announced a taste of Narcosis trailer, showing off the game play in their latest horror title. Using the Unity3D engine, Narcosis is a survival story set in the hostile depths of the Pacific Ocean. Stranded after an accident, an industrial diver takes desperate steps to surface before his oxygen - and sanity - give out.

Legend of Grimrock 2 - The sequel to an incredible Dungeon Crawler [Review]


Legend of Grimrock 2 is an old-school grid-based first-person dungeon crawler all wrapped up in state of the art visuals and high quality audio. The first game was a huge success story and it resurrected the grid-based first-person dungeon crawler genre and brought it up into the light. It gave fans of the genre a much appreciated blast from the past, and introduced it to a new generation of crawlerheads. In my world only one type of dungeon crawler exist; the grid-based first-person one. I have played virtually every dungeon crawler since the early 80’s, so when I was asked to review Grimrock 2, I was all over it like white on rice!
