Saboteur 2 - An enhanced mod by thealfest for the Amstrad CPC/ZX Spectrum [UPDATE]

Now here's a blast from the past and a game that I remember as being one of the best action-adventure games I had ever played on the Amstrad CPC 464. It's 'Saboteur II' developed by Clive Townsend and released by Durell Software in 1987, the same publishers behind the incredible dragon flying 'Thanatos'. This fine game was released for many platforms such as the CPC, ZX Spectrum and C64, and featured a female protagonist who must break into a high-security compound, fight off guards, avoid pumas and alter the course of a nuclear ballistic missile and then escape on a motorbike. 

JetPac Miner - Drill and find precious minerals in this new ZX Spectrum game!

We've had another heads up via a good friend of ours, that if you like unique games for your 8bit system, then it might be worth checking out the latest ZX Spectrum release update of 'JetPac Miner v1.2b' by riefer666. A fabulous speccy game which one person is quoted as saying " a nice version of Hard Day's Night. Game looks interesting!" Gravity Boy! - Navigate a space station by manipulating gravity in this new Plus/4 game!

With two competitions currently on going, the ' TND SEUCK Compo 2025' and the 'game programming competition', it's always worth checking out both of these, to see if any special games have been entered that's worthy of our attention. Well that's certainly happened this week, as LBM has entered their new Plus/4 game of 'Gravity Boy!'. A cool entry that doesn't just look rather unique with its monochrome graphics, but it's also fun to play with challenges to be had via each level.

Mega Vortex 2 - A top scrolling C64 shoot 'em up entered into the SEUCK Compo 2025!

Trawling through the latest SEUCK Compo 2025 entries looking for a fun C64 game to play, and one that stood out in the crowd, was Vox VideoGame's C64 Shoot 'em up of ' Mega Vortex 2 '. A game in which you play as Pinov Vox, a fearless space pilot of Mega Vortex 2 on a mission to destroy the evil Megaloryan emperor and his minions. H.E.R.O - A cool PC remake of a classic now on itch io by Langford Productions!

Heads up ' H.E.R.O' gamers! As Liqmatrix recently informed us, that 'H.E.R.O, which is a game that was released for the Atari 800/2600, ColecoVision, C64, C128, and Sinclair ZX Spectrum, has been remade for PC, and available to download through itch io by Langford Productions . A classic game which puts you in control of Roderrick Hero, on a mission to search the cave system for the trapped miners of Mount Leone. To coincide with this news, we've got some screenshots of the game below.

Marlow - A super duper platformer for the ZX Spectrum 128k arrives on the MSX

Thanks to another heads up by the developer(Amaweks) and our good friend Saberman(YT), we've been told if you remember playing the famous platformer of the Great Giana Sisters which was released from 1987 onwards. Then it will be well worth your time checking out Amawek's latest MSX game of 'Marlow'. An incredible platformer that is inspired by "The Great Giana Sisters" and was previously released for the ZX Spectrum 128k.

Krogharr - Inviyya creator's upcoming Commodore Amiga action slasher gets a new tease!

We were one of the first gaming websites to give you the heads up about TIGERSKUNK's amazing Shoot 'em up of Inviyya; a game with amazing scrolling graphics, super action, great sound effects, and a real hark back to days of R-Type or Project-X. Well time has passed since its release, as this week the same developer has now shown off a new video tease to his upcoming fighting game for the Amiga called 'Krogharr'; a new OCS action slasher which was mentioned some time ago in our very own Facebook group Commodore Amiga!

G-ZERO - F-Zero inspired SNES WIP game looks impressive on the Genesis/Sega Mega Drive

A bit of a late heads up for this one, as a good friend of ours, has recently informed us, that Gasega68k has released an early work in progress version of 'G-ZERO' for the Sega Mega Drive. A game that is inspired by the SNES title of 'F-Zero'. The first game in the series originally released for the Super NES, as the first game for the platform to use a technique by Nintendo called "Mode 7 Scrolling". To coincide with this news, we've got some footage and a very brief description about this WIP tease below.

Hero Quest improved for the Amstrad CPC!

Way back in the early 90's a fantastic top down game based on an original board game was released by Gremlin, that became hugely popular to the point of receiving great reviews and ending up as one of the top most recommended games to have in any retro collection. That game was none other than ' Hero Quest ', a video game adaptation with a great soundtrack, of the fantasy board-game from Games Workshop and Milton Bradley. So you'll have to forgive my over excitement as I have just found out through Xenomorph, that Hero Quest is getting an improved version for the Amstrad CPC. 

Formula V20 1985 - A nod to Pitstop II and Pole position for the Commodore Vic-20 +24k [81' +16k UPDATE]

It's not often we get new racing games for the Commodore Vic-20, but searching through the itch io website earlier today, we've found out that Huffelduff has released the Commodore Vic-20 game of 'Formula V20 1985'. A new game in that the developer says is a nod to classic Commodore 64 games such as Pitstop II and Pole position.. In light of this news as ever we've got some new footage of this arcade racer which can be found below.

Speed Haste - A shareware racer gets an Amiga Port by BSzili (68040 or 68060 with an FPU)

Got yourself a high end Commodore Amiga and want to make the most of it? Then come and check out this new Amiga port that's been released as  'Speed Haste/Circuit Racer' by BSzili. A port of a shareware arcade racing game, that was originally created by NoriaWorks Entertainment for MS-DOS between 1995 and 1999. A game that allows you to race F1 or Stock Cars around a variety of circuits in either Practice, Single Race or Championship modes. Asylum - The spiritual horror successor to Scratches has arrived on GOG and Steam!

As someone who loves paranormal TV shows and movies, there's something really chilling about the stories behind Asylums, especially with the dark decaying rooms and history of human suffering. So to hear that the creators of the cult sleeper hit Scratches and the haunting Serena, who we know as Senscape has announced that its extremely long development project of Asylum has finally been released on GOG and Steam, we just had to sit up and take notice.

Head Over Heels Deluxe - Top quality remake of an isometric retro classic is well worth checking out on Steam!

Head Over Heels was first released in 1987 for several 8-bit home computers such as the Amstrad, C64 and ZX Spectrum, but this faithful remake and deluxe edition, which was only recently released on Steam and has just got a new update, is based on the Spectrum version with all new gorgeous graphics and new features. Although originally designed by Jon Ritman, Bernie Drummond and developed by Ocean Software, this remake of Head Over Heels designed by Rusty Pixels, Ogre Games Ltd is well worth checking out indeed.

Hyper Wings - Geldo79 announces the final version of this fast based Amiga space shooter! [UPDATE]

The last news story from me unless something major comes out, as the previously announced Amiga shooter of 'Hyper Wings' by Geldo79, has hit the big 2.2 with a final version!  An Asteroids and Star Control mash up which was developed in ASM. To coincide with this news, while we did feature the game before, you can at least check out the full up to date details, as well as a gameplay video posted below.

Prisonela MD - 80 short levels of fun for the Sega Mega Drive

Fancy a new game for your Sega Mega Drive, a platformer that has many varied albeit short levels, then come and check out Ratalaika Games and Two Black Cats latest release of 'Prisonela MD'. A game in which you play as an enslaved creature that has sought his chance for freedom, when the underground resistance strikes against the authoritarian regime. Pjusk - A puzzler from Zooperdan for the Commodore Amiga

While many of you are looking forward to playing the finished version of 'RallyXSE', there's another game that's worth checking out by the same developer, especially if you like puzzle games, is Zooperdan's Amiga game of 'Pjusk'. A Sokoban like game whereby you must defeat enemies in the right order and collect power-ups along the way to carve your way to the exit. International Kopicat Plus - A memory based game for the AMIGA 500 by Fourseasons

Some more family friendly fun for you all, is the latest release of the memory based game from Fourseasons called 'International Kopicat Plus ' for the Commodore Amiga. An AMIGA version of the classic memory game SIMON from 1978, blended with IK+ (International Karate Plus) and Karate Champ. ZX Spectrum 'Rebelstar 2: Alien Encounter' is being remade for the Commodore Amiga

I wasn't expecting to do any writing today, especially with the sun being out and me resting. However this latest news item was just too good to pass on by! As I've recently found out through the EAB forums, that Hardwired is remaking the ZX Spectrum game of 'Rebelstar 2: Alien Encounter' over to the Commodore Amiga. As in his words "For the past 2 months I've been converting the Classic ZX Spectrum Game Rebelstar 2: Alien Encounter. This is a tactical squad turn-based game by Julian Gollop, prequel of sorts to Laser Squad". To coincide with this news, here's some brand new footage and brief details about the game below.

Grind - An epic first person shooter for Amiga 500 (512k CHIP and 1mb OTHER ram) gets another update! *wip*

If you're looking for more gaming news on this upcoming first person shooter of 'Grind' for the Commodore Amiga 500 and above. Then we have just been informed by Saberman, that not only does this work in progress game have a brand new DevArena map for you to try (Patreon Paywall), but this new update showcases all the latest fixes and features added to the game since then. Bomb Jack Extra Sugar - This Arcade classic as an Amstrad CPC remake via Anthony Flack looks super impressive!

I can still remember in the late 80's on my Amstrad CPC 464 playing the brilliant Arcade port ' Bomb Jack '. It is a game that required you the player to high jump and float about getting rid of all the bombs on the screen before they are used to blow up historic places of interest, which is made more difficult by the enemies on screen. So why is this game getting another mention? Well we've just been contacted by Xyphoe via Twitter, that this great game from back in the day, is now available as a fully fledged Arcade to Amstrad CPC remake by Anthony Flack.

Trapped in the Tomb - Remember Fred or Roland on the Ropes? Then check out this new Amiga game by Marggines!

If you remember playing either the C64/ZX Spectrum version of FRED, or the Amstrad CPC version of Roland on the Ropes, then come and check out this new game that's been mentioned to us by Saberman, it's 'Trapped in the Tomb' for the Commodore Amiga by Marggines. A game that not only comes in a lovely boxed edition with goodies, but the team behind the game has also made the digital download completely free. FASTER - A super-fast and silky-smooth racing game for the Atari STE by Jonathan Thomas is coming to the Amiga!

Glorious news Amiga owners, as we've just found out through Twitter, that Jonathan Thomas will be bringing the super fast and silky smooth facing game of 'FASTER' from the Atari STE over to the Commodore Amiga at some point in the near future. As in the words of the creator about the STE version "Don't expect endless game modes, achievements, tutorials or cutscenes - this is pure, unfettered and uncomplicated 1980's-style arcade action". Street Fighter II 128K - The REAL CPC Edition shown off in this gameplay footage [2021 UPDATE]


This year has just been fantastic for the Amstrad CPC with a ton of Amstrad homebrew games to spoil us, but even though we had the incredible Amiga to Amstrad port of Pinball Dreams, we haven't finished with the Amstrad yet. Now you may remember our big article on the very impressive looking homebrew remake of Street Fighter II titled 'Street Fighter II - CPC Edition' which is being developed by DaDMaN, and AugustoRuiz for the Amstrad CPC 6128 (128Kb RAM). Well at the end of last month a new video tease was released, showing us just how far the game has progressed and what it's like to actually play.

Master Piece - A Chess like game for the Amstrad CPC and ZX Spectrum by Tartessos Games

When I was a young lad my step dad used to always go on about Chess. He'd sit there for hours on end moving around pieces as if the end result would be some grand prize. It certainly wasn't my idea of fun as I was a video gamer anyway! Still if you like Chess but feel like the gameplay could be changed in some way, then you may be interested in checking out 'Master Piece'; a new game by Tartessos Games for the Amstrad CPC and ZX Spectrum.

The Cthulhu Project - An upcoming Dungeon Crawler for the Amiga by Captain DarkN3m0 gets new footage [UPDATE]

Something slightly different for todays retro heads up, as if you are a huge fan of Dungeon Crawlers, especially games such as Eye of the Beholder or Lands of Lore. Then you may be interested to know that Captain DarkN3m0 is still working on a new Dungeon Crawler for the Amiga called 'The Cthulhu Project'; A horror like RPG which the creator says "is being developed using AMOS PRO as a 3D old school Dungeon Master like game". To coincide with this news, a new video has been posted which demonstrates the updated dialog system.

Sky Shapers (Amiga) - A vertical scrolling SHMUP from new Norwegian developers Digilicious Nibbles! [Update]

Love collecting big box Amiga games and more so brand new ones from homebrew developers, then come and check out Digilicious Nibbles latest Arcade Shoot 'em up of 'Sky Shapers': A game in which the Norwegian developers have said is "an engaging and challenging 50 FPS vertical scrolling SHMUP". While I'm unsure when a digital download only version will be available, you can at least buy the boxed edition which is available to buy through the Amiga Shop linked below right now.
