Street Fighter II 128K - The REAL CPC Edition shown off in this gameplay footage [2021 UPDATE]
This year has just been fantastic for the Amstrad CPC with a ton of Amstrad homebrew games to spoil us, but even though we had the incredible Amiga to Amstrad port of Pinball Dreams, we haven't finished with the Amstrad yet. Now you may remember our big article on the very impressive looking homebrew remake of Street Fighter II titled 'Street Fighter II - CPC Edition' which is being developed by DaDMaN, and AugustoRuiz for the Amstrad CPC 6128 (128Kb RAM). Well at the end of last month a new video tease was released, showing us just how far the game has progressed and what it's like to actually play.
Ooze : The Escape - A fabulous ZX Spectrum game available via itch io!
From the same developer who brought you Monty's Honey Run and Monty Mole and the Lost Souls, Andy Johns has since announced that his previously released 2017 ZX Spectrum game of ' Ooze ', has now been made available through itch io. For those of you who don't remember this game, it is a high quality platformer that also features menu art and code by David Saphier, as well as menu music by Miguel/CPU and some in game music by Rayden/Vitali.
Joe Gunn - A rather excellent platformer with new gameplay footage!
During this week Hayes Maker yet again had excelled himself with a great weekly write up full of interesting C64 games that had been released or were still in development. Once such game that he mentioned called Joe Gunn; a game first published by Psytronik in 2007 and RetroGamer Sizzler. Had recently been released as a digital download at Itch.io. Thankfully Zbigniew "Saberman" ZieliĆski joined in with the fun and has now done his own gameplay video of this lovely game!
Cruiser X-79 - A new C64 shoot em up in development by TND64
Even more C64 news to keep you company as The New Dimension have announced a new shoot em up titled as ' Cruiser X-79 ', that is currently in development with music by our personal favourite SID guru Richard Bayliss. Announced via a gameplay teaser, this latest game is currently being migrated and is being written in C64PRGStudio V3.0.1. Also as the video shows it features new music, in game sound effects, temporary graphics and 4 test alien formations.
Ooze - Andy Johns slimy ZX Spectrum game is coming!
Lost Neo Geo Prototype found - A Kick ass arcade fighter teased!
Hot off the press and given the heads up by our good friends Retrotaku, is a rather eye opening Neo Geo prototype that has been found, and teased to a rather shocked community. Revealed by NeoTurfMasta at Midwest Gaming Classic 2016, this looks to be a rather interesting fighting game, similar to those seen at the Arcades, that featured a number of characters each with different fighting moves. According to the details in the video there is no information on the name of the game or the company that was developing it. This is a game that was never even listed on any SNK catalogs ever and was thought to be developed by Technos for various reasons, but at this time there is no proof of this.
The Videokid - Skateboarding mixes it up with Paperboy shown in new teaser footage!
What do you get if you have the original Paperboy, replace his newspapers with video tapes and change his bike to a skateboard? Most likely this game, ' The Videokid ', which is being developed by Pixel Trip Studios and could be released this year. From what I can tell from the game as it's only just been teased recently with gameplay footage, you play as the videokid and must skate through towns and other areas, while chucking video tapes at people and or houses for an ever increasing score. The graphics are voxel based, with a lot of attention to detail and the charm of the 80s classics!
Atari ST game ' Ranarama ' WIP Amiga conversion by Galahad/Scoopex!
Not long into 2016 and already the Amiga scene is kicking it up a notch, as we've just learnt from our good friends Scoopex, of an Atari ST to Amiga conversion they have been working on with Galahad that is due at some point this year. The game is none other than ' Ranarama ' which not only appeared on the Atari ST but the Amstrad CPC, C64 and ZX Spectrum. The gameplay was basically a top down Gauntlet styled action game, developed by Craftgold in the late 80's and published by Hewson Consultants.
Petra - Isometric MSX game announced with footage!
Another in development game was announced recently and that was the MSX game of ' Petra ' developed by Lord Zett of Darkstone. Written in MSX-Basic, this is an isometric 3D game in screen 8 and according to Msx.org a demonstration of the project may happen at the upcoming Nijmegen MSX fair. So far there isn't much else to go on, other than the playable character being a female, and the world made of textured coloured blocks.
QUOD INIT EXIT II - The sequel to the colourful C64 game has been teased.
Last month we gave a special mention to Retreams Arcade homebrew of ' QUOD INIT EXIT ', that had a cute little pig, lots of fast moving fruit and was so colourful you would've been silly not to even load up through a C64 or the emulator WinVICE. So to hear from the developer of the sequel which has only just been announced, we were just a little bit excited. Named as ' QUOD INIT EXIT II ', you once again play as the piggy, but this time looks to be more of a side scrolling platformer with finished development into next year.
Underworld Ascendant - An all time classic RPG overhauled prototype footage
Earlier in the year we gave you the big heads up over Otherside Entertainment's Kickstarter success of the overhauled RPG of ' Underworld Ascendant '; a dungeon crawler that seeks to give the player the ability to progress through exploration and experimentation, rather than scripted solutions; a rekindled legendary game in the fantasy RPG series. Well those of you who pledged over $300 in funding had the chance to play the prototype, and as such, a member by the name of DawnrazorDCLXVI recently released a video play through!
Amscraft - Minecraft style Amstrad CPC port update !
When we mentioned Lachlank's Minecraft style game being developed for the Amstrad CPC, it was so popular that it ended up on many other sites (without us as the source) and generally people were surprised what the 8-bit machine from the 80's could achieve. Called ' AmsCraft ' and written mainly in C using SDCC/CPCTelera but with assembler to draw blocks, the developer has today released a second update footage which shows off the new title screen, initial music, scrolling between scenes and block placement.
Captain Sugar & the Tea Caddies of Justice - Free fun platformer!
Dickdatson has just announced that his platformer, Captain Sugar & the Tea Caddies of Justice is now available to download and play for free. You play as Captain Sugar on a quest to rescue his friends that have been kidnapped by the evil dentist! This is achieved by conquering the worlds and defeating the evil baddies that occupy them. Although not the highest of graphical quality free platformers we've had on Indie Retro News and still in development, it is a lot of fun to play and does have a retro inspired feel to it. Available for PC and comes with a nice gameplay trailer!
